Just for you Pep Rocks!

Here is a look at a 6 class system. 3 public classes. 3 private / independent classes. I'm sure I've made mistakes in terms of some small independent districts. I think this system solves a variety of problems (not sure how districts would work for the small / medium privates and independents. I'll let someone else figure that out.

Condense the Classes down to 3.

Put the privates and independent districts into two separate classes.

Big private (you're welcome for the name)

Trinity / X /BG / Higlands / Lex Cath / Cov Cath / Owesnboro

Small private:

Everyone else

 

Highlands is not private. Independent public school district.

If Trinity, St. X, and Bowling Green were on the same side of the bracket, you'd still get blowout championships most years.

Seeded 6 game tournament - they all play each other in regular season each year. Lowest team doesn't make tournament.

One thing that happens that no one has mentioned is once you get into the playoffs and especially the championship, if a team gets down they don't play to keep it close like they might in the regular season. They keep going for it and throwing the ball trying to come back, that leads either to epic comebacks or the defense feasting on them and getting sacks and turnovers which leads to blowouts.

 

If you are losing it doesn't matter if you lose by 1 or 25, because there is no tomorrow. So you see the team behind keep trying and trying, which often leads to them giving up turnovers, short fields and late TDs.

And you are basing this on past performance/history and not enrollment?

I'm basing splitting them on performance, but which class they go in is based on size.

Seed the playoffs and you will see a better slate of finals.

How do you go about doing that? A selection committee, A computer ranking or maybe use the AP Poll? This would be great for message boards, because they would blow up. I just don't feel there is an appropriate way to seed the playoffs that would be even marginally better than they are now.

 

In a state that is roughly 6-7 hours by bus from end to end, there would be a lot of 1st and 2nd round games with potential of crazy long drives.

Why independents with privates ?

Same argument , different title. Not necessarily 6 classes but matchups. The 2 best teams in each class don't meet sometimes.

Too many games. State Championship is game 15 for most teams, too many, bodies are worn down. They play more than some college teams.
