If an independent district doesn't allow out of district students (full stop), I have no problem with them.

Out of district tuition at Highlands is an example. Only 5k per year. For comparison, tuition at Trinity is 13k.

County schools accept players from across county lines, state lines and from within the city districts every year. So your complaint about Independents rings hollow to me.

I agree. In many ways being independent is even better than being private. If there were 6a independent schools, I suspect they would win big.

Independents don't have any advantage that county schools don't have.

 

They do have advantages, but few are related to sports.

Anyone who thinks there should be a private-only class should be aware that there are only 14 football playing private schools in Kentucky and 10 of that 14 are all 2A or smaller.

 

Anyone who wants to force tiny Bishop Brossart and other 1A schools to compete with St. X and Trinity each year doesn't actually care about fairness; they just want an easy road to the state finals.

Who would ever say Brossart should be in the same class as X / T?

Yes, in general, I'm fine with the private / independent class being very small in comparison to the other group. Their needs should not mean that everyone else has to compete in an inherently unfair system. They can still play the other teams - just not in district / playoffs.

Despite the fact that public schools choose to close their own borders, restrict their own access to students and so on. We have had this discussion ad nauseum on here.

How many public schools in KY do not allow out of district students?

 

In N. Ky., I believe it is only the Boone County schools, right? All other public schools in N. Ky. allow out of district students, don't they?

Wow! Looking at the small class Southwest district, I did not know that there were two schools named Owensboro Catholic, Todd County Central, and McClean County. Looks like a great number of O-Cath Aces, Todd Central Rebels, and McClean Cougars being cloned. Here is a more equatable proposal for all the Western Kentucky small schools:

Southwest District: Mayfield, Murray, Ballard Memorial, Fulton City, Fulton County, Crittenden County, Webster County, Todd Central, Russellville

West Central District- Butler County, Owensboro Catholic, Hancock County, McClean County, Glasgow, Clinton County, Metcalfe County, Monroe County, Green County.

Three classes is a great idea. Only the district winners and runner up would go to the playoffs and all the state championship games can be played on a Saturday. For a long time, Tennessee had only three classes in football and it worked out well. Tennessee also did have post-season bowl games for teams not making the playoffs. These bowl games can be played on the first weekend of the playoffs.
