More State Championship games, More $$$

 

That's the key for the KHSAA.

Surprising they haven't worked out a scheme to make money off the semifinal games..

Let's poll the 6 State Champions or runner-ups from the past few years and see if they feel like their experience was "watered down" due to 6 classes. Maybe some will turn in their rings.

Let's ask the upcoming seniors if they want to shave games off their senior season because "10 games is plenty".

Frankly I would rather see 4 classes with seeding the playoffs.

Do you think they would win the biggest class in a 3 class system against T, X, BG, Scott County, Male etc? That doesn't mean they aren't a fantastic team just that 3 classes inherently increases competition to win the championship.

I really like the idea of seeding the playoffs, but then the concern becomes the travel times. How would you account for that?

So, why does it bother you if they won a championship if they are a "fantastic team"?

Someone explain to me how a 6 class system "hurts" our kids. I have heard Mr Tackett make the comment that when someone explains that to him, they will consider changing the current system.

It doesn't bother me. I just think it's more fun to have the increased competition.

Could you explain how a 12 class system hurts our kids? Or a 24. The lack of harm to kids doesn't make the system the best one.

If South Warren has no chance of beating the big boys, how does moving them up to play in a class with them increase competition?? Cutting the number of classes doesn't affect make your largest class more competitive (although it may make your bottom 2 classes more competitive. Basically their are some very good 4a and 5a teams that would move to the largest class that would have very little chance of competing for even a district title. You mention South Warren last year 4a champ as not having the guns to compete. Johnson Central, who's been very good forever, Scott, South Odham, Anderson County....all good teams that would have trouble making the playoffs and being able to win games if they did make it. I think this plan does nothing but solve the perceived issue of too many teams making the playoffs, and would eventually destroy some very good medium sized programs.

It is the South Warrens of the world who have the most to lose in a 3 class system because they go from an easy run to a championship in a watered down class to having to compete.

Which accomplishes what?? How do current 4a teams benefit by moving up to play with the 6a powers with up to double the enrollment?? And how does the sport of football in KY benefit??

Then why not make basketball 6 classes?

Sometimes people lose at things. That is the nature of competition. I think 3 classes produces the most competitive, fun to watch playoff system, while also minimizing travel, and scheduling issues. Based on your logic, we should have an indefinite number of classes so everyone can be a winner.
