The NBA also put a lot of the emphasis on athleticism in the past 30 years, instead of drafting basketball players, they drafted athletes who played basketball.

Changes in games are always going to make comparisons across different eras difficult.
May 12, 201610 yr I said it in another thread...Curry is to the 3 point shot what Jordan was to the Dunk. There have been great shooters before Curry (Allen ect) just like there were good dunkers before Jordan (Dr J). However, they both have a charisma and ability to seize the moment doing what they do that has never been done before. In the late 80's/early 90's you walked into a gym or to a park and guys had there tongues out and even if they couldn't dunk where doing double clutch reverse layup ect... Now you see kids showing off their handles throwing up fade away 30 footers...while there will be great shooters and ball handlers come along in the future, they will more than likely be compared to Curry...Just like most high flyers/ dunkers are compared to Jordan.

What I mean is, Steph has probably taken more shots on NBA rims than a lot of the vets in the league due to his dad playing and being a really good shooter. Therefore, it stands to reason he was already ahead of the curve by the time he was drafted. Surely he won't be the only player to take advantage of his advantages in this manner. In fairness Kobe practiced taking bad shots everyday. No one will ever be better at taking and making bad shots than Kobe Bryant.

I vividly remember typing almost exactly this when Kobe announced his retirement. Tying this back to Steph, would it be fair to say Steph is taking worse shots than Kobe did on a more regular basis?

It is fair to say it but I haven't seen Steph venture into the vast wasteland of bad Kobe shots.

May 13, 201610 yr Just an idea I had to keep the NBA chatter going as the games become fewer and further between. It will go something like this: Is it fair to say Steph Curry is the three-point generation's version of Vince Carter? Carter came at the end of the Jordan era when NBA fans were looking for the next great leaper in the league and had fans glued to their seats anytime the Raptors were on, despite not being an above-average team, let alone a historically great team. Fun fact: Carter, too, was drafted by the Warriors in the lottery. Do you like the comparison? If not, too broad or too narrow-sighted? Is there a more comprehensive example? I don't think it's a fair comparison at all no matter what way you look at it. People have liked Curry but people have become fascinated with him the last 2 years because of him doing it this way and them winning and winning big like it. Not to mention championships, records, mvps. People are fascinated with him because of his play and his play leading to great accomolishments. Which Carters play never did.
