Are you kidding? Do you know how many times he has been T'd up and ejected from games? Heck he was ejected and caused a scene by not leaving the gym the last game of this past year! I sure he would have started this coming year with some sort of suspension!

Pitino got rid of Rhodes after his JR year at Kentucky what' that tell you. The following year the won the National Championship.

We all know that Rhodes has issues, but the principal is the issue at Cordia, and he takes his orders from the superintendent. I guess some parts of the state still live back in the day when you just keep your mouth shut to keep your job. You would be surprised at what has taken place in that school over the last 5 years. Academic decline, student population decline, health issues (school is filthy), the list goes on and on.

I know nothing of this situation but after reading this thread I searched around on facebook and found a person who supports the coach. She posted a status update and said Rhodes was fired because he didn't submit a PO and wouldn't pay it back (or couldn't...I am not sure). The puzzling part for me is this person said that Rhodes wife had issues related to her pregnancy while in Lexington. Why would the school pay for a health issue or any expenses surrounding this issue for a coach? Or was this person whose fb I read not telling it right?

Rhodes should check with Oneida Baptist for a position on their staff and take his players with him. Private school with dorms. Many of their students and athletes are not from Clay County, rather they are from other Kentucky counties or from out of state. Some are from other countries.

 

The things he was doing at Cordia would be within the KHSAA rules and guidelines at OBI.

If you are recruiting it should not be guidelines of any KHSAA school. Sorry, but cheating is cheating regardless of the school population.

My post was only suggesting if someone is all about bringing players into their school it would be easier to do at at school such as OBI. Probably over half their sports teams are from outside Clay County, and have been since when I was in high school in the early '70s. They have dorms. They're private. The town of Oneida itself probably doesn't have 50 people but their high school has been as high as 300 in enrollment, although they're down to about 200 now.

 

I remember our school playing them in the late '70s and most of their team was composed of kids from other places. Their best player was a fellow named Ben Franklin. He was 6'5 and could jump out of the gym and tear the rim off with dunks. They had another player named Caldwell that was 6'6 and another dunker and good scorer and rebounder. They also had a nifty point guard. But they lacked depth and couldn't get past the traditional regional powers.

 

Players moving into schools has been going on for a long time. Nothing new. I'm just saying it's easier at a boarding schools. If the administration would tolerate it (which they wouldn't. ...OBI is as ethical and by the rules school as any school you'll find in the state) Rhodes would be on cloud 9 in Mountaineer land.

His contract was non-renewed because of insubordination, not a purchase order. And he tried to get OBI a couple years ago and they wanted no part of it!

But the PO incident is what led to the situation with the principal, thus insubordination.

Your last sentence is dead on, and I mentioned that in my post. OBI is not about building all star teams. Never have been. They have other priorities.
