With the strong start by the Washington Nationals is their first year under former Reds manager Dusty Baker and the slide in performance by the Reds since Baker's forced departure, is there any sentiment that perhaps Dusty was not quite as bad as originally thought when he skippered the Reds?

 

I will say that I think that is was a terrible mistake to get rid of Baker. Although I don't necessarily agree with every move Baker made, I am not of the opinion that a manager who led the club to its most sustained success in decades and who had a winning record should have been shown the door.

My co-worker and certified Reds expert has hated every manager the Reds have had since Sparky, with the pick at the top of his list.

 

I would prefer Dusty over Price but understand why the change was made. It just didn't work as well as hoped by the ownership.

To this day, it was one of the dumbest moves made by Reds front office, with the exception of Homer's ridiculous waste of money contract and the signing of Hoover. But Dusty couldn't get out of the divisional series ulitmately costing him his job.

The Joey Votto contract is the worst move by Reds management in the last five years. Joey Votto is awesome but that contract is horrible for a team like the Reds

Seems like he's doing a good job so far. I'm not watching them everyday so it's hard for me to say overall. I just know what he did here.

 

It also helps Bryce Harper is on pace for 80 HRs and 200 RBIs.

Dusty was not the problem. They would be better with him IMO

Dusty is a terrific manager and can maximize the number of wins his franchise can achieve. He won with the Giants, won with the Cubs, won with the Reds, now he is doing it again with the Nats. As a Cubs fan I hated to see him go, even more so as a Cubs fan I hated to see him go to the Reds and have sustained success. The only issue with Dusty is winning in the post season, for whatever reason he just cannot get it done in the Fall. However, his teams speak for themselves, always better when he is on the bench, always worst when he leaves. For some reason though he just can't get over the hump and win the big series' when they count.

Blowing the big lead against the Giants did him in. If he would have won that series, he probably would still be Reds manager.

The Reds got infatuated with Price and were worried he's leave for another job. If they'd let him walk and kept Dusty, they could have brought him back as pitching coach after a few years.

Let us not forget the 3 years 15 million dollars for John Broxton. Or the 2 years 10 million for Ryan Ludwig. Or the only Multi year deal that Miguel Cairo ever had.

I was not anointing him at all. 162 games is a long season, so much can happen between now and the end of it. I was just simply saying that I think the Reds were better off with him than without him and that I am generally not in favor of firing winning managers and/or coaches.

Just got swept by the Phillies and routinely bats a guy with an OBP around .250 1st and .300 2nd in front of Harper. Basically just like we thought.
