The Sweet 16 should be held at Rupp Arena every single year. If not at Rupp then it should be at the Yum! Center.

 

There's something so quaint and magical about having it in Lexington that I don't think can be duplicated in Louisville, not to mention it being more centrally located.

Many are complaining about lack of atmosphere and empty seats, so why not move to a smaller arena and pack the place.

They average 12,000 per session. Where else in Kentucky (besides UofL, which is as big as Rupp) can you get that many in a gym?

When they did the endzone renovations I believe Memorial was shrunk to right at 10,000 and perhaps a bit less.

It would be good for the All A

I have lots of thoughts about the tournament. I have gone as a coach, fan, and administrator. I think what needs to be done is create an atmosphere of excitement. A lot of open seats even if tickets are sold effects the environment. How many seats are in the bottom bowl of Rupp. Maybe close off the upstairs and charge less for end zone seats or the higher areas of the lower arena?

The only way around Redbook is for coaches to either pay themselves or get someone outside of school to pay. If coaches not attending because of Redbook rules is the big reason for the attendance drop, I'd argue that the tourney wasn't as popular as believed, since a fair portion (coaches) only went because someone else was paying the bill.

 

One other way ... If you have a district activity fund (where a school athletic dept. deposits some of their revenue at the district level instead of at the school level), there is much greater flexibility in how those funds can be spent. Redbook guidelines apply strictly to school activity funds. With the district activity fund, there just has to be an educational purpose, and that can be pretty broad. Biggest obstacle is that the district office wants to take on the "extra work".
