I'd like to see ticket prices adjusted in an effort to reward/encourage people to attend more often. I'm making these numbers up, but work with me:

 

-Buy 1 session of lower tickets, it costs $18 per session

 

-Buy 2 sessions of tickets, it costs $16 per session

 

-Buy 4 sessions of tickets, it costs $13 per session

 

 

Or you could make the first round tickets cheaper to try and encourage more casual fans to attend. Extend the prices a bit as the tournament progresses and more people are likely to attend.

 

So if you buy 4 sessions you save a total of $20, or $4 if you only buy two. I understand the cost arguments, but I honestly don't think $20 is going to make a difference between staying home or going. $4 certainly isn't going to get anyone off the fence. Especially when the rest of the expenses (food, gas, lodging) are going to run you more than $500.

First, it is a suggestion. I'm not saying it has to be set up like those prices. Rather, it would hopefully encourage people to buy more tickets if the price slid down. Would it work? Who knows.

 

Second, they are looking for new ideas. The obviously don't want to change the dates. I'm just throwing out something else that might work.

In not sure if I can or how to link an article, but as Tackett compared ito an event such as the Derby, you know what the KY Derby did recently? They added mobile cell towers so there wouldn't be dead zones everywhere. The Derby realized that social media plays as much of part as the actual race itself.

This is a very good point. The lack of cell service at Rupp is always a nightmare (at least for me, as I seem to never have service there). If you're there for a session, that's 4-5 hours. If NCAA games are going on, I'd like to keep up with the gamecast, tweets, maybe even watch it while watching the high school games. Can't do much of that in Rupp.

I think the best idea to try is the tiered ticket pricing and/or packaged ticket deals. We see that happening in many other sports so there must be some merit to it. I would make each round a little more expensive and allow people who buy opening round tickets to pay the same per session cost all the way through the championship game.

 

I would make the championship game double the price of opening round tickets if that is the only game ticket you purchase. If you buy tickets to the semifinals, you get a discount on the championship game. If you buy round 2 plus the semifinals and championship, you get a bigger discount on the championship game and a lower price on the semi-finals also, etc ...

You have to find away around the Redbook so coaches and administrators can attend. The middle sections should be full no matter what teams are playing and they are not. Not a lot of coaches and AD's are attending anymore. Coaches and Ad's used to get professional development days to attend. Now they have to use personal days. If you don't have any personal days and you use sick days it throws up a red flag and you may have to provide proof for use of sick days. Hotel cost are High. The Hyatt requires you to stay the whole time around $1300-

$1500 for the week. Other hotel rooms may be cheaper but then you have to take a cab or pay for parking each day. The event has also dragged out during games. Im ok with the awards that go on but 25-30 minutes in between games and 15 minute halftimes are too long. A lot of fans head to the exits to watch NCAA games instead of waiting around to watch the last sessions late game.

If coaches not attending because of Redbook rules is the big reason for the attendance drop, I'd argue that the tourney wasn't as popular as believed, since a fair portion (coaches) only went because someone else was paying the bill.

The Sweet 16 should be held at Rupp Arena every single year. If not at Rupp then it should be at the Yum! Center.
