The rumor being floated yesterday was that Philly was looking to make the plunge that the Rams took. I can't get over Jeff Fisher moving up to draft a QB. So un-Jeff Fisher like. I wonder if this was an ownership decision to make a splash?

I'm a pretty casual CFB, but I have never heard of Wentz. Cany anyone give some info about him? That's a lot to give up.

I've seen him play in-person a couple times and watched quite a bit of him the past two years he started on tv.

 

The first question comes up is why he was not playing Division 1 football. He had a Anthony Davis like growth spurt in high school and missed his Junior season at QB because of a baseball injury. From Bismark which isn't a hotbed for college football.

 

Great athletically, not super fast, but well above average speed for a QB, however he is a smart runner. Despite being in a pound it out offense, he was often utilized as a dual threat option.

 

NDSU is the king of FCS football, so his competition was much less, but also those he was playing with are less talented. You could really see it in the title game against Jacksonville State. Wentz had not played in 8 straight games, but when he took the field he just looked different than the rest. Huge gamble even though he measures out well physically and with all intangibles. He can be careless at times with the ball.

He replaced a three time FCS champion QB for those wondering why he didn't start until the past couple of years.

 

Also now uncommon to have a QB that comes from a pro style, under center system.

No I agree, seems like a lot to give up for basically one player. IMO the Rams got Rammed on this one (throwing it back to the RGIII Rams/Skins deal). I mean as much as they fleeced the Redskins a few years ago you would think they would know something about avoiding a burn like this but they must be content with their current roster. They are basically giving up four possible starters this year and two next year for essentially one player. Ouch! Better make it count!

Rams have said trade was actually agreed to yesterday, but out of respect for Kobe Bryant they didn't announce it until this morning.

True, but it is also fair to note both times Washington has won their division it has been out of default. And one of those seasons was because RGIII didn't see the field :lol2: And St. Louis was competing against the NFC West.

This is solely my opinion here but I waste a lot of time when it comes to the NFL draft to watch and scout for no reason at all. Wentz reminds me of Blake Bortles. He has a big body, can make every throw on the field, good pocket movement. His biggest problem is going to be the adjustment to the game. Just how Bortles had an awful rookie year, if Wentz is thrown into the fire right away you will see similar results. If he has a year to sit and get accustomed the game like Cleveland can offer behind RG3, that would do wonders for him.

I just heard Mike Mayock talking about Wentz and he seems very high on him. He likes the football mind that Wentz has and his ability to recognize and call plays while under center. Mayock thinks this is a good deal for both teams

True, but NFC West has been a tough division recently, more so than the NFC East. Also, the draft picks the Rams got from the Skins' essentially built the backbone of their team. You take away all the players they got from Skins' deal and this team is a whole lot worst. They pretty much built their team off that one trade, I think the Titans will be able to do the same.

We don't know that and won't know until a few years down the road. A stud QB is worth the picks.
