March 21, 201610 yr It is legal technically. The government can't discriminate based on political affiliation but a citizen can. But if I'm a Trump supporter I sign the deal in a Hillary shirt and then move in with my Trump shirt on.
March 21, 201610 yr While it is probably not against the law, might be 1st amendment violation, it is a bad precedent. I would hope that anyone is safe to support and vote for whomever they want without any discrimination towards them. I can only imagine the gnashing of teeth if the same person was refused a place to live because they supported some of the other candidates.
March 21, 201610 yr Not against the law and I understand what he's saying. It's not just an apartment, he's renting part of his house out. Why take a chance on added aggravation by renting to someone who you may not get along with?

I've had folks apply for jobs with Obama stickers on their cars or left leaning posts on their social media pages. They never make it to the interview round.

March 21, 201610 yr No issues. Not against the law. Owner can rent to people who they think will make good neighbors. Short-sighted? Yes. Potentially passing on a great tenant? Sure. His/her call? Absolutely. Karma would be getting a non-Trump tenant who you end up despising.
March 21, 201610 yr Where it does get sticky legally is if it's a black person/gay person who the landlord somehow garners who they support politically. It would seem at that point the landlord has a way to get around discrimination laws.
March 21, 201610 yr In the case of renting to someone. If they otherwise qualify and if they are not going to be sharing part of my home, I'd rent to a Lib. But only with the caveat that they cannot display political signs on the common grounds. Much easier for me to take rent money from Lib than to put one on the payroll.

Take their money with a smile, then use it to fund the candidate of your choice!
