A couple people I know with Indiana roots said classification is the worst thing Indiana has ever done for high school basketball

Again...I'm curious as to why. Has it resulted in less talent, less competitive games, less exciting games?? Or is it just a longing for the good old days??

If attendance is the issue, I don't think moving the games to Saturday night will make much of a difference. Purple said it earlier, it's more of the who is playing than what time the game is. I would prefer having the Saturday night game so I could have a more viable (still not good) excuse for my wife to spend the whole day in Lexington.

 

I do think the KHSAA should make the semifinal games earlier in the day if they stick with the Sunday championship

 

Agreed... Sometime like 2:00 & 4:00 or 3:00 & 5:00 start times for the Semi's. No real need for them to have to be at night time on Saturday nights.

 

I suppose though for the hotel business in Lexington they like having people decide to stay over after Saturday night's game whereas if games got over earlier it might make the decision to bolt town easier.

 

Still it makes for a long day in Lexington on Saturday to have to wait for the night time Semi's when they could easily be played earlier.

You reward a team for losing their district, I understand that losers of a district have won a state tournament. Trust me when I say that a district runner up may get an awesome draw at the regional tourney and that is a major reason why they even get to the state tourney. When you lose in post season you should be done, it is why it is called post season play. If you can not win your district are you really the best team in your region?

 

I guess the NCAA needs to redo their system as well then? No at-large bids, only conference or conference tournament winners

There's a 35,000 difference in attendance from the highest year to the lowest year. No way coaches and staff account for that much of a difference. Not even close.

 

4+ coaches from 300+ schools isn't going to make a difference?

 

I see very few coaches at the state tournament nowadays & spoken to several that don't go due to the reason given in another post.

Even if 5 coaches from 350 schools decided not to go, that's only 1750 people not attending. That's well short of 35,000. Realistically, the real number of coaches not attending because of Redbook is probably less than 1000. That's just a drop in the bucket.

Still, consider coaches still go paying their own way. And while some now choose not to go, that number over all the sessions likely still isn't a huge chunk. And if you're depending on coaches to show up to make your attendance numbers, your going to have problems.

Since the red book changes a lot fewer coaches attend. That is a fact. Now it is not enough for this huge drop but it doesn't help.

Who cares about a redbook, many schools here have the booster club fund these trips. Is that legal to get 1500 check from the boosters and go to Bowling Green and party down.

A loss of 30% attendance in three years is obviously problematic. What is done now is not working. Saturday restaurant and hotel stays are probably significantly off, no one staying for Sat. & Sun. games. KHSAA needs a crisis management team of consultants to conduct a strategic planning process to salvage it. The fan experience is on the decline and the present leadership has no clue how to stop it. Standing ,too, close to the billboard to read it.

Pardon me for not reading through this but the title caught my attention as just today I was thinking to myself that I haven't followed the championship game itself as much since it moved to Sunday. Saturday night was much better IMO even with the teams having played that morning.

I would be cool with a Tuesday thru Saturday format with Friday night Semi's and a Saturday night Final.

 

Tues: 4 first round games

 

Weds: 4 first round games

 

Thurs: 4 quarterfinal games

 

Friday Night: 2 Semi's

 

Saturday Night: 7:00 Final

 

It would also make the Semi's and Final feel prime time, and teams wouldn't have to play all worn out like the old format. I think this would help attendance especially for the Friday and Saturday games.
