Today is the 2nd anniversary of Birdsfan's passing and a very sad day for many of us on here. Dave was truly a tremendously great friend to me and many other BGPers. His wit and his writing style along with his friendship is greatly missed by so many of us. He inspired us, he made us laugh, he taught us, he simply made us better.

 

I was lucky enough to have many conversations with him, hang out with him and even more fortunate to become his friend to the point we both felt like we were brothers. While I still feel the pain of his physical absence, I feel his presence often which is comforting. The fond memories of our friendship will always be with me and that is what gets me through not seeing him, and though he can't answer me I know he hears me and sometimes I feel like he lets me know he hears me.

 

I know many of you miss Dave as much as I do, please feel free to share your feelings or even a story about him if you like. Birdsfan was a huge part of BGP and meant so much to so many. Be at peace, my friend. I love you and I miss you Dave!

 

For those that may not know, Padre Pio was Birdsfan's patron saint.

Losing BF certainly left a hole in my life. His special brand of humor always had me laughing. I miss watching ridiculous Sci-Fi shows and American Idol "with him" (we would watch at the same time and text each other throughout.)

 

It was a special moment for me when RTS and his wife took me to BF's grave. To see "Birdsfan" on the back of the grave marker brought me again to tears. His parents "got" just how much a part of him was BGP.

I will be visiting Birdsfan's grave today and will do my best to mention all of his dear friends from BGP.

It is still truly remarkable how Dave touched so many lives in so many different ways. I miss you buddy.

The Mrs and I visited Dave at the cemetery today, his parents were there when we arrived. We got to talking about BGP and how Dave touched so many lives across the state of Kentucky as well as other states because of BGP and his time on here. They wanted all of you to know how happy you made Dave, how much your friendship meant to him and to them as well. They wanted me to thank all of his wonderful friends over the years for bringing such joy into his life. They mentioned some by name (either real name or user name), remarkable they remembered so many two years later. To name a few, @swamprat and Mrs swamprat, @True blue (and gold), @rockmom, @theguru, @RebelK and Mr RebelK, @Watusi, @gametime, @MentschTrachtGottLacht as well as a few others. I had to help them out a bit on some names, but you get the picture. All of you and so many others meant a lot to Dave, which in turn meant a lot to them.

Gone but never forgotten. Tells a lot about a man.

Hard to believe it has been 2 years. Miss you Dave.

Thanks for posting that RTS. I think of Dave often and sometimes when I log on to BGP I expect to see a post by him or have a message from him. He really did touch a lot of lives.

 

His mom and dad are special people too. They were always the most gracious and welcoming to me. It is easy to see where Dave got his kindness and his loving nature. The apple sure fell close to that tree.

Only wish I had the chance to get to know Birdsfan a lot more. He had passed less than 3 months after I met him at a BGP Christmas party that he had encouraged me to attend when I expressed timidity about attending.

 

I had no idea what impact he would have on me and was happy to continue to keep in contact with him afterwards. He had an undeniable spiritual presence about him that has been instrumental to me in my own spiritual path. It was quite a surprise to me that meeting him would've had this effect on me, and especially since I was trying to find every reason in the world not to show up at the party while he cleverly and humorously eased all of my concerns.

 

He was gone from this world way too soon, but the way that he effected everyone who knew him he poignantly made the most of the days that he was with us. I keep his holy card in plain view to always be a reminder to me of his incredible faith that for me helps to keep hope alive. He certainly was a special guy and it's awesome of you RTS to keep his spirit alive.

I wasn't realizing this until you posted, but that's pretty special that Birdsfan's day is also the first day of Spring.
