Newport Central Catholic 48 Trinity 33 (Sweet 16 1st Round)

Featured Replies

Hard to believe that Trinity scored its 10th and 11th point mid way through the 1st Quarter and would not score again until the 3rd quarter. Thats right, 0 point second quarter.

Weyer was a man today. He completely dominated this game and it seemed Trinity was intimidated by him and subsequently settled for lots of jumpers.

Actually think it was a 14 minute stretch without scoring. Think it was about 3 left in 1st until 3 gone in 3rd? Anybody verify actual?

I love Q Goodin and Carson but I've said all year that Ben is just as good as either. He definitely deserved more love and publicity in the Mr Basketball race.

Will continue to shout, no local paper to circulate stories about our NKy teams and players hurt their exposure and chances. Can't even get coverage for our Girls Sweet Sixteen speaks clearly to our media void.

To be honest LB, I've always thought of NewCath teams this way(team unity). Even in the dark ages when we were going up against them in football, basketball and baseball. (I did like pitching against them when they had the field up on the hill. The constant wind was a great ally except that short field in I believe right. Or was it left?)

290 left

300 center

350 right-center

307 right

Every NewCath team has GREAT team unity, but some more than others.

My apologies if some read this the wrong way, maybe I should have done a better job explaining.........but I'm doing this on my phone, and that ain't happin'.

I'm tickled to death for the team, coaches, & fans on this win.

3 more to go, and Ron losses his hair........literally. LOL

Oh no! I wasn't implying anything, sorry. I was just noting that when I was a kid going up against NewCath, they were always a team that seemed unified even back then. Always enjoyed going up against them.

I might get a little flack for this, especially from my buddy LB13...but without some upsets happening and things just really going NCC's way, I'd have to say no. Now, with that said have stranger things happened? Absolutely they have, but there are definitely better teams that one would think should beat them somewhere along the way. I would be somewhere between mildly and fairly surprised if they cut down the net. However, since I have seen them play several times the past couple of years which has fostered somewhat of a rooting interest for them along with my friendship with @Lawnboy13, I'd like to see it happen for them.

I wasn't at todays game, didn't see it so not sure how much I can comment on it, but NCC is going to have to come up with more than 48 points to beat most teams. Not going to hold many to 33, or anywhere close to that most of the time when playing the better teams the state has to offer. But again, if they could pull it off I'd be happy for them. Plus LB13 would get me in the school so I could check out the trophy in their trophy case.:thumb:

After LB13 stop by and I 'll get you through to see the Bulldogs at Holmes trophy and banner and I imagine there are some on here that can let you take that 5-10 minute drive form there to CCH to see theirs. We love showing them off.

If Carson and Q are 1A then Weyer is 1B. He is just a difference maker. Defensively blocking shots and coming over from the weak side to swat shots out of bounds to offensively shooting 3s and a good post up game. NCC can win bcos u always have a chance with the best player on the floor. Dunbar would present a tough challenge for them, bit then again....ncc wpuld give dunbar problems too slowing the game down and controlling the pace.

Bottom line, Weyer is the real deal and will be an all timer for Bellarmine

I agree, it was midway thru the 1st quarter when Trinity had 11 and didn't score again until 4.38 left in the 3rd. Midway thru the 1st Trinity executed the back door pass perfectly and Weyer came from nowhere to block the shot. I thought Weyer had 7 blocks.

Who does NewCath play next?

This is why they should wait til after the state tournament to determine Mr. Kentucky Basketball... Ben Weyer making a statement to the state that he is legit. Congrats to Trinity on a great season and good luck to NCC the rest of the way.

To me it's all about hype. Who has the most throughout the state. Id take Weyer over Williams 8 days a week

T missed 20 shots in a row from mid-1st qtr to mid-3rd qtr.

Went 16 minutes (2 quarters) without a basket. A few FTs, but no filed goals.

Trinity with only 2 seniors on the roster? The Trinity radio color commentator predicted the Rocks to be back in Rupp next year in the state tournament.

NewCath only has three. Hopefully the rest of the boys keep on growing! We wont have much height!

I knew what you meant...........I just didn't want the masses to think otherwise. Sorry if I didn't full go into detail in my original post.

I talked to Mike Fields after the game and he said it was a 15-minute stretch...without scoring. Not sure I have seen anything like it...

...except the first game today when Buckhorn nearly did the same thing in losing to Murray.

A most unique way to start a state tournament.

My wife felt so bad for the losing team in each case she started cheering for them. (This is the lady who had talked about bringing a book with her to the arena. :) )

The Rocks crumble.

It must be miserable being you. Knowing that you can only WISH your favorite team would be relevant in any high school sports conversation.
