Thinking about going to this one. Is there any reserve seating or is it first come first serve?

Gonna be an amazing game tomorrow. Can't wait to see the atmosphere of this game. The Mason/Paris game was unreal. Can only imagine what this ones gonna be like. Mason by 6

I would think after Mason's recent loss to Augusta and the way they gave up the lead in that game, they'll be extra fired up to take this one ..... Who wins, I don't know, but it should be a dandy.

Mixed emotions on this one for ol' pap. Having followed the Royals for a number of years (no comments from the peanut gallery), my first allegiance is to them. What Buddy Biggs and company have done with a solid point guard and a bunch of reserves from last year's team has been fun to watch. They seem to have gotten over the rough patch immediately preceding the postseason and have eked out a couple of nailbiters at the right time.

 

Then there's the Augusta Panthers. Were they gonna be good this year? Yep. 24-6, district champs and playing for the chance to go to Rupp under a first-year coach? C'mon, man.

 

We in Mason County have had our share of regional championships. Throw in a couple of state titles. The way an unclassed state basketball title galvanizes a small community is something to behold. We got to see it firsthand in '03 and again in '08.

 

Now, this may be hard to believe, but I have a bunch of friends from the county to my left. I can't begin to imagine what the town of Augusta will be like should the Panthers find a way to win yet another game against the Big Blue Monster of the East with a trip to Rupp on the line. Folks will be talking about it forever.

 

Look at the roster and be realistic. This is Augusta's last chance at immortality for a while. The past five years has been a magic carpet ride, but it's about to end. Oh, there will be wins against Mason County and Bracken and St. Patrick down the road, but this is THE CHANCE for a regional championship.

 

Augusta is a team of destiny. If they get ahead, it's over. They proved it to me in the semis.

This post only has a little bit to do with this championship game, but here goes.

 

Last year, the 10th saw a 37th District vs. 38th District Semifinals (Campbell vs. Pendleton & Scott vs. Harrison). Then we had an all 37th District title game with Campbell vs. Scott.

 

This year we had a 39th District vs. 40th District Semifinals (Mason vs. Paris & Augusta vs. Montgomery). And we'll now see an all 39th District title game with Mason vs. Augusta.

 

Very good balance in the 10th Region Tournament these last two years.

 

As for this final, I never thought it possible, even as the Augusta/Montgomery game tipped off. Great work by both teams in getting here, especially considering both needed a basket on their final possessions to win in the opening round.

Mason Co wins.

 

Interesting stat- Since 2008, this marks the fourth time that the regional tournament hasn't been held at the Fieldhouse. Mason Co has made it to the title game ALL four times and is 10-1 in those tournaments.

 

Moral of the story: Mason Co (and, everybody else) wins in regional tournaments because they are 1) the best team or 2) playing the best ball in the region at the time of the regional tournament.

It could be argued that Mason co had the best team at 27-3 last year and at 21-6 in 2014 and playing good ball at the end of the season and did not make the finals either year. Sometimes the best team does not win. MoCo had the best team in 2014 and Mason in 2015. Augusta played the best ball tonight. Can the do it on back to back nights?

I'd love to see the Panthers get to Rupp Arena. Pig needs to stay off Twitter until the business is handled.

Better get there early. Line of cars was out to the loop at 20 minutes until game time last night. Looked like just a few hundred empty seats at tipoff, but going back through the update threads, there were reports of folks not being admitted inside until others had left.

I think this game will go down to the wire again. As long as Mason County doesn't get in foul trouble (a big IF), I think MC pulls out a 4 pt win. But like mcpapa stated, if Augusta jumps out to a lead, there may be no catching them this time.

 

I don't know what time Montgomery County lets out of school, but hope the crowd waits for the buses and cars to leave before piling into the parking lot! :sarcastic:

Can Mason finally realize there is no shame in playing some kind of junk defense on Augusta, or will they be like Montgomery last night and themselves in the past and simply try and play this Augusta team straight up. If you let Augusta spread you out then your odds of winning have greatly decreased.
