If Augusta and Bracken County consolidated in 1998

I remember playing in the Old gym. It wasn't very nice but I enjoyed beating the Polar Bears on their home floor in the 80 degree Igloo :thumb:

Bracken should have done with it like Maysville's gym. A great girls gym and practice gym. But in all reality we know that gym could not stay forever.

McCracken County combined 3 1A schools.

Imagine the possibilities in the 39th.

St. Auken.

Brackapat.

Augbrackick.

Not to mention, how many people would attend this new school from their respective schools? I seem to remember having family in Tollesboro attend Fleming County after they closed them in the early 90s.

If I remember correctly, most of Tollesboro players transferred to Fleming or Mason without changing addresses?

With McCracken, one was 4A Lone Oak, and together they became 6A. Harlan County combined three (Cawood was 3A) and became 5A. Augusta/Bracken combined is likely still just 2A. Not a huge gain.

They didn't, but I think I remember something about a contract. They ended up moving over to Fleming in 96 or so.

Correct on Lone Oak. Brain fart.

Bracken is nearly 2A on their own, but as you said adding Augusta wouldnt get them past that.

I'm just glad it never happened.

Would it happen? No. Could it happen? Yes, but something would have to give.

It didn't happen in 1998... I think the opportunity ended there, unless things in A-Town are far worse than I think.

I think it ended there, but the state sometimes like to do things without input from the locals sometimes too.

Heath and reidland were 2A and

Lone Oak was was either 3 or 4

Just think if Oldham County had expanded its buildings in 1989 and remained one school. Instead South Oldham was built, and years later North Oldham was established. If Oldham County High School had remained one gigantic campus, I believe the Colonels sports teams would have won multiple state titles in football and boys basketball. Some of the other sports would have also been right there for state titles.

Agree OldhamOldie. However, when I think about all the young boys and girls that would have been denied the high school athletic experience and all the valuable life lessons, I believe Oldham went the right path in their case.

There was also the Bracken/Robertson (Deming) plan around 1986. New high school was to be built in Powersville.
