Unless he just completely collapses in the Super Tuesday results I think Bush will hang on for just the reason you mention. But I can see right now that Bush won't be the nominee. I don't think he has a chance in a General Election and most of the GOP power players think the same. Trump has really hammered him hard using his brother and family as a punching bag, albeit most of it unfair. But he's planted an image in many Americans heads about the Bush leadership that has really hurt him. The GOP nominee will be Trump, Cruz, or Rubio IMO.

Donald said the Mexican government encouraged the Pope to take that view during his visit and said they should be ashamed using religion in that way.
