It’s been a few months since Fitbit announced a trio of products, including their first GPS watch – the Fitbit Surge. This joined two other activity trackers, the Fitbit Charge and Charge HR within the announcement (my review of the Charge & Charge HR is here). What’s made the Surge a bit more special than the average GPS tracker is the optical heart rate recognition, built into the unit itself.

Some companies give incentives to use the Fitbit and track the steps. Saves on insurance, employees are in better shape so miss less work.

 

 

I'd absolutely use one if my company and/or insurance gave me some type of incentive to do so.

I know someone who bikes outdoors and takes cycling classes in bad weather. Fitbit doesn't count steps in cycling. I know a one hour cycling class is more grueling than a one hour walk. I think steps do not accurately measure physical fitness.

 

If I pay big tuition to send my kids to college, and they make the grades, what business is it of the college how many steps they take?

I am with Ru and BF on this one. First, steps taken is not the most accurate way to measure fitness. Someone can bike for an hour and lift weights for an hour and get a great workout and not register many steps at all. Second, it is not the university job's to worry about how many steps each student takes. It is the university's job to give the students an education. Now if a student is in a health or physical education class I would understand if that this was part of that class but not the whole student body. And BTW, I own a Fitbit and love it.

Relax francis, just having a humerous moment. The whole nfl, conspiracy, Tom Brady, OVERREACTION COMMENT, you made, basically defending them like the Pats did Brady. Just seemed to fit and was funny. Besides I agree with Guru. Over reach of authority making them wear or participate. Has nothing to do with the reason they are at the college to begin with. They should pile them up at the presidents doorstep.
