Wow! 24 hour tracking. Zero Privacy.

No a million times no, begining of the end people...

Apart from how much you're walking, what other data does a FitBit record?

It wouldn't have to be 24 hours. Get your 10,000 steps and take it off. Unless the school had a password to your account, they really can't get much information other than how many steps you had each day, even if you are "friends" on the Fitbit network.

Nothing other than activity.

From the article:

The Fitbit device uses GPS technology to track how and where students exercise, eat and sleep, as well as the calories they burn, how much they weigh and other personal information, EAGNews reported.

Huge overreaction.

I have the most basic one and it can track:

steps

distance (based upon your height)

active minutes

calories burned (based upon your weight)

calories consumed (if you enter this information)

sleep

weight loss (if you enter this information)

Some more costly models can track flights of stairs climbed and heart rate.

Huge overreaction.

Did you read post 19?

Yes. You're overreacting in a major way.

Yes. You're overreacting in a major way.

It is a slippery slope.

A Fitbit cannot track what you eat or how you exercise other than to distinguish whether you were ambulatory or not. To my knowledge only the most expensive model has GPS capabilities.

I could see a cottage industry of dudes wearing multiple Fitbits and running up step count for several people at a time...form a small nominal fee!

It is a slippery slope.

Or, in this case, a huge overreaction by you.

I am taking that as a where, not a what.

UKMustangFan has spoken!

Some devices can track via WiFi and don't need GPS. I'd think there would be an abundance of WiFi hot spots on a college campus...maybe these particular ones can't or don't track location but that wouldn't be much of a leap if a school wanted to.

I can see some Overly Aggressive Human Resources up and comer decide these would be good for everyone in their company to wear. Under the guise of tracking fitness.
