That's disgusting. The crazy thing is I know several people that absolutely love Wendy's chili.

 

Actually, in a pinch it's ok. It's fairly healthy...or at least not horrible for you, and filling. It's no where near great, but I wouldn't call it disgusting. And like you I know some who really like it.

The meat is the same meat, just patties that became well done because they were not sold as burgers. The meat is gathered and chopped up for chili. It's not like somebody backs over the meat with their Ford F-150.

Your right, but to each their own, lol. I don't like their burger patties when they're fresh, much less after they've sat under a heat lamp for who knows how long then repurposed for chili.

That's how they make their chili. The meat is almost always leftover hamburgers.

Well, not EXPECTING to pay almost $12.50 for a bowl of spaghetti and a slice of pizza I didn't pay any real attention to the board. I didn't expect to pay sitdown casual dinning price at a fast food joint...and I think most would have been surprised by it. Won't do it again I can tell you that, Fazoli's if off the lunch menu from now on.

 

You basically ordered 2 entrees. That will definitely add up.

I don't know about all Wendy's, but I have never had a burger from there that was held under a heat lamp. Now, they are done up and kept hot in a steamer, but they're not dressed and held under heat lamps en masse.

Was in Northern Kentucky yesterday for appointments and an MRI, so a long day. Hubby thought he would give me a break from kitchen, stopped at Wendy's at Alexandria Green, seemed convenient. We almost never do fast food being a very good cook myself and love to cook. It was definitely a mistake. What was supposed to be chili, had big squares of chopped up hamburger patties instead of ground whatever. Where did anyone think that recipe was a good idea? Pitched most of that meal. I can order a Kansas City Steak 4-5 lb. prime rib roast for 49.99 and I can make about 4-5 nights entrees easy and the sides aren't much of an expense with canning from garden and salads and my own bread. Never realized how bad or expensive fast food had become.

 

So, so true. I cook whenever I can. It's healthier, too. I'd say you are an amazing cook. Do you and your husband have a favorite dish that you like to prepare? I know when I go the the Golden Corral(on rare occasions), I like their pot roast. Your mention of a roast got me to thinking about that.

I just associate the taste of most fast food as something that has spent some time under a heat lamp. @nkypete mentioning that the patties being put into the chili due to not being sold as burgers, makes me think they were cooked on the flat top then sat under a heat lamp until they lost their chance of becoming an edible burger. Maybe not, who knows.

My first job as a teenager eleventy gazillion years ago was at Wendy's. I can't speak to what they do now, but back then we did not use heat lamps for burgers. The guy on the grill (me) had to be good at trying to match customer traffic with the amount of meat in various stages being cooked. Sandwiches were never made in advance. The meat just stayed on the grill in various stages of being cooked until an order was received. Then the unique condiments and toppings met up with the bun and the meat to complete the sandwich order. In the old days, "Hot and juicy" was the Wendy's slogan. If the first row of meat was starting to lose its sizzle, it became a candidate for the chili container. The meat was recooked at a lower temperature with the rest of the chili mix to be served later. The skill of the grill person was to not create too much "chili" meat while having enough meat on the grill in order to keep up with a lunch or dinner rush. Once again, I have no idea if this is the way things are done anymore. After Dave Thomas died, I think the corporation declined in many ways IMO.

Our department always gets about 50 of them at our Math & Physics get-togethers. It's pretty popular. My chili is much, much better.

It's the Dollar Menu for me whenever I go to a Fast Food joint, never get a soft drink and never spend over 5 bucks.

 

And that folks is one thing that enables LB to pay cash for his cars.

No, the pizza is an option as a side with the combo meal...I could have chosen a little healthier option and gotten a side salad instead or I think a side of pasta salad is also an option. But the pizza sounded good and actually, believe it or not, is fairly tasty. So the pizza (and it's a small slice) in essence is no different than, say getting fries at McDonalds with a BigMac or quarter pounder combo meal.
