The issue once again is that not everyone shares the same set of values, morals, and beliefs. To call out another for what you consider to be a perversion is not only ridiculously annoying, self-righteous, and sanctimonious, it's also none of anyone else's business.

I don't know that I necessarily agree. I think, oftentimes, we wax nostalgically for the time in which we or our parents or grandparents grew up. People are people, now and then. I tend to think there was just as much debauchery, perversion, and meanness back then as now. I know it often seems worse but I don't know if that's really the case. I mean back a half century ago, many in our society deemed it okay to prevent a black person from getting an education. A half century earlier, it was acceptable to deny women the right to vote. A half century earlier still, a black man was deemed property and only 3/5 of a person. Some might say we have actually made progress in the way of morality and values. In the sexual perversion arena, hell, Jefferson and our other philandering Fathers epitomized perversion.

Are we really less moral today? It's debatable. Go back even further to Biblical times. There was incest and perversion galore going on amongst those "Godly" men and women. I kinda equate it to how teachers often say, "these kids are so much more disrespectful , unattentive, lazy , sorry excuses for students than they were in my day." I've even said that myself. I just wonder if sometimes we aren't just deluded by a sense of nostalgia about the "good ole days."

All you have to do is look at the state of affairs today. It is not just one item that has given us the problems we have at this time. And a lot is being generalized, nothing was said about ethnic or religious groups, but the attempt to quiet ones opinions through PC is evident.

I think you are in your early 30's. At the time of your conception interracial relationships would have definitely been considered "a perversion" by many people. I think it's obvious...

Total cop out. There is PC in this world, but this aint it. This is a case of you guys spouting off ridiculous stuff and really, truly, hurting people. And we are just calling you out on it. And rather than face that, or deal with it, you shout "no PC!" I will exempt Jesse from this, he sorta kinda stands behind his words no matter how silly they make him seem.

Boy this sure was an exhausting, yet interesting 148 posts read, and though JJ seemed to want to address many various legitimate issues, he has himself only to blame that it hasn't panned out that way, for he tried to sneak within his initial questioning, his own moral stance, which others couldn't help but to cry foul with his initial premise being deluded with poppycock.

 

I can certainly see where others had trouble getting past the nonsense to ultimately make attempts at addressing all of the other issues presented, when they understandably felt it necessary to first scrape away the junk before getting to it.

 

I want so badly to limit anymore of my exhaustion, so I'll try to avoid the temptation of adding my typical two thousand cents, and many here have already done a fine job of echoing lots of things that I might've said anyhow.

 

The thing that stands out to me greatly by what some have contributed, that is as equally comforting as it is refreshing, is that there is an increasing amount of straight folks who "get it".

 

Sure gays "get it" because they "are" and have had to most of their lives give the whole topic a ton of thought related to who they are, and where they fit into this society, but it's commendable for straights who don't necessarily feel forced to understand, but give it good thought anyhow, and are capable of arriving at their sound understanding.

 

Just as it has always been, it's still frustrating and puzzling that some don't, but believe me I'm certainly used to that, as that is nothing new.

 

It would have been interesting to see where this thread could have gone if it initially had been started minus all of the "so called problems", but 8 pages in it appears to be a little too late for that unless JJ can rethink and grasp how to better present his initial topic, and perhaps start a brand new thread that gets into discussing the meat of the other legitimate issues, and finding solutions for them.
