Louisville Metro Police said around 11 a.m. a man shot at officers in the 4100 block of Eden Lane in Shively. One Shively police officer was shot. Police said the officer fired back and the suspect was also wounded.
Officer in surgery and expected to recover...no word on the suspects injuries or condition.

Cops haven't always been shot at from time to time?

Well, let's just tell that to the officers shot and the families of those killed this year.

In the past 24 hours, LEO's in Philly, Boston and Louisville have been shot.

My guess is part of that is because of better training and equipment.

That would be something to look into, but I would be willing to say that is correct.

Problem is that a lot of the shootings where officers survive, don't get a great deal of media or acknowledgment. Truth of the matter is police officers are trained better now than ever before, also in better shape over all than previous decades and better equipped. All of this gives LEO's a better chance for survival which in turn means less media attention. Sadly society is somewhat accepting towards officers being shot at or shot, it's when they're killed that matters in the numbers game.

It's a fact not a slight to fallen officers or their families.

Instant news makes us believe things are worse. We, as a nation, should continue to do everything we can to reduce the number of those we lose in the line of duty.

The chart is about officers who were "feloniously killed". Not the ones who were shot in total. I'd like to see those numbers.

That's probably part of it but haven't murders and other violent crimes in general been dropping for the passed 30 years?

Probably also partially because of better training and police work.

Is there any evidence that violence, or attempted violence against police has dropped? Because less die that doesn't mean less have been violently attacked.

One reason for that drop over the last few decades is that more and more officers are wearing vest now...many departments they are mandatory but some not only are they not mandatory they aren't even provided...officers buy the vest themselves if they want them.

Second reason is better training as stated by HB20.

Third reason fatalities are down is that from 70's til now EMS response and training is much much improved over previous decades.

Officers are being assaulted at around the same rate I read last summer, fatalities are down...however ambush killings are rising if I remember correctly.

Many people feel that the BLM campaign endorsed by BO was a spark. I don't really know one way or another, certainly it's been proven we have some terrible LE in this country who have no business carrying a gun, but we also have good LE.
