Class Teams By Winning Percentages

Featured Replies

You don't want to water down football? Class teams by winning percentages and then see who's the boss. Here is an example of 4 classes using divison instead of classes. Division 1 being the toughest. Teams are classed for 8 years. This gives them time to establish a program and see what they can do if a program has not been established. At the end of 8 years realign taking the top 4 and switching them with the bottom 4 at each division. You can do this with 4 or 5 divisions. This would be a lot more competitive exciting football and believe me St. X and Trinity wouldn't win it every year but either would Boyle or Highlands. Nice!

Puts a school with about 100 boys in the school (Paintsville) competing for the same championship as schools with 1,300+ boys (more than THIRTEEN TIMES MORE BOYS to choose from).

You're right, X and T might not win it every year...but there'd also be about 40 in Division 1 alone with absolutely ZERO chance to win it.

This isn't basketball or baseball. Size of enrollment matters greatly in football -- it matters MUCH MORE than how many wins you've had over teams your own size in the last ten years.

The more boys you have to choose from in your school, the more potential you have to have quality depth, a quality scout team in practice, and the chance to "platoon" your offense and defense. Beechwood, Danville, etc. would compete WITH most if not all those Div. 1 schools on a ONE-GAME basis. But what do you think would happen in the playoffs after facing teams week after week that have the numbers of players to send WAVES of people at them?

Can't wait for that Eminence/St. Xavier matchup in Division I

A nice idea, but just not fair for some teams, both the ones with small enrollment and also with difficult schedules.

Travel issues maybe?

A for originality though. One of the better concepts in theory.

Won't be too much different then the Iroquois St. X matchup that happens every year.

How long since they havent had a school? I had forgotten about this school.

You'd be surprised at the difference.

I think this is a non-starter all the way.

This would be a lot more competitive exciting football and believe me St. X and Trinity wouldn't win it every year but either would Boyle or Highlands. Nice!

I think you would end up with more competitive scores in the lower division, but you can't claim it wouldn't be watered down.

As for X and T not winning every year, are you trying to say that the Males, John Hardins and Manuals of the world aren't difficult enough? X played a top 10 team every week of the playoffs last season except the first. Was their road not hard enough? I think X and T would still dominate with Male mixing in, regardless of who you placed in their division. They're just the top teams in the state, regardless of who else is in their division.

They would have to compete with Boyle, Highlands, and Danville also. It would be really tough. Some of those schools might be 8 man teams like Emminence I believe so ignore them.
