UKMustangFan Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I've officially hit the point of apathy towards politics. I used to love everything about politics, and loved everything about election times. But no more. The political discourse in this country has become too degrading, too hateful, and just utterly hopeless IMO. Reading through the various threads on this forum has only cemented my feelings that it's simply a lost cause. No meaningful change can occur without respectful dialogue from both sides of the aisle, and that's never going to happen because no one really wants it to. So...whether it be Clinton, Trump, Cruz, Rubio, Sanders, Bush, or anyone else, I just don't care. We're screwed as a country regardless. Anyone else feel this way, or am I alone on an island in this??

UKMustangFan Posted December 29, 2015 Author Posted December 29, 2015 Not what I was asking. Anyone else completely apathetic to politics at this point...
theguru Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Not what I was asking. Anyone else completely apathetic to politics at this point... We are so divided I find it more interesting than ever.
spindoc Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Sure. I'd say most are that way. Look at the turnout at the polls
Hellcats Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Nope. I believe at one point we may learn to compromise.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 it's hard for me to get excited about the Kentucky primary because the candidate is basically already given the nod before we even get to vote. I'll still go vote for my person regardless out of principle but it's annoying and makes me a little more apathetic at this point. I think I'll gear up again more when we have it narrowed down.
WhoozYoDaddy Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 I agree with the Guru, the more divided we become, the more intrigued/involved I get. It is the ultimate competition, (no, not a game) with our future and our children's futures hanging in the balance.
John Anthony Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 We are so divided I find it more interesting than ever. The most divided times in most of our adult lives.
True blue (and gold) Posted December 29, 2015 Posted December 29, 2015 Not what I was asking. Anyone else completely apathetic to politics at this point... I am almost to this point and certainly understand your feelings. I used to love discussing politics, learning new things that sometimes reinforced my views and other times changes them. Now, everyone is already divided into predetermined groups and of course everyone knows what you think on all topics as a result. We aren't interested in discussing things, simply insulting the other side and each other. Simply put - it disgusts me.
rockmom Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I go back and forth. In the end, I think I'm just done discussing politics. I love a good, healthy, respectful debate of philosophies and differences of opinion. I hate nasty, hateful, divisive, vitriolic discourse. I've decided I will seek out all information I can. I will ignore the kinds of debate that I hate, where respect is eschewed for "non-PC" delivery. I am living a life that I am happy with, and it has nothing to do with who is POTUS, whom MAY be POTUS, or any other elected office. In the end, change happens close to home. I'll keep working to effect change in the places I can touch. I will be fine, no matter what happens in an election. Nothing is easily accomplished in politics, whether policy change or opinion changes. I'm going to just keep on keepin' on. I am choosing to live negativity-free from this point on.
Pioneer.Pride Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Maybe I'm more passionate about politics than most. At least presidential politics. I have been passionate about two different presidential candidates in the last 15 years. I loathed George W. Bush for taking the country to war on false pretence. I was so livid, I worked on John Kerry's campaign in Ohio. Trump has ignited my passions positively as he is unique as a presidential candidate and has a chance to bring real change to presidential politics. I am prepared to work on his campaign in Ohio.
True blue (and gold) Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I moved all of the electoral college reform discussion to its own thread. It's a related topic that can probably generate its own discussion.
Habib Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I'm still very interested from a broad perspective. I'm apathetic about the candidates and the parties and the prospects of a functioning government, but I still follow what's going on in the world fairly intensely. I do find the discussions in here much less interesting lately as they tend to be insult fests, but I still stick around, so there's that, I guess.

I do find the discussions in here much less interesting lately as they tend to be insult fests, but I still stick around, so there's that, I guess. Mainly due to the insult feasts you speak of I find myself having to take breaks from the CI and politics forums. The current two-party system gives me great apathy as neither party comes very close to representing my views. I think a growing nationwide apathy to this strengthens my apathy to the system. I still hold out hope for a viable third party or even more...
