I'm aghast that there are so many people that are seriously considering that man. I mean he's been entertaining and all but his act is growing old and is getting disturbing. He is bringing out the worst in people. It's very disturbing. Don't like Hillary? I get it. Vote for one of the other candidates besides Trump or vote for a third party candidate. I don't agree with a lot of Bush's politics but he is a decent, sensible, capable man. Trump has all but castrated Jeb and effectively ended his campaign. What are people thinking? I know it's just a minority of people that say Trump is their guy but it's still disturbing that a man like that is able to sway that many people. I've often wondered how in the hell a man like Hitler was able to brainwash so many to think that hate was the way to make a country great(AGAIN). Scary...

Oh there's a ton of them that will. I was told as much by at least a half-dozen at Christmas functions these past couple days.

I will take Sanders over her as well, but he's not beating her and neither is any Republican.

Trump is carrying roughly 35-40% of Republicans which is probably somewhere around 20% of the voting population if I were to estimate.

 

What scares me is the question: is Trump isolated and just a caricature of this frustration held by a portion of the US, or is he the new normal? Will we have candidates blaming our issues on the weak instead of asking the strong to make us better? If this is the new status quo I see 2020 now: Trump vs. Kanye West.

Two comments:

 

1. When he first announced as a candidate, there is no way I thought Trump would be in the leading position that he enjoys now. Maybe like the classic underdog is an athletic contest, ".....the longer he hangs around..." Who knows?

 

2. I agree with Rockmom that the division the USA is feeling now is nothing like the Vietnam divide and the race riots of the late 60s. I think our country (and the world) is trying to learn how to handle and cope with the internet and social media, such as I am on right now, and the massive amount of information and viewpoints (bogus or valid) that are so readily available. Every Tom, Dick and Harriet (I included) can now give his or her view along with the more established pundits. I think this ability serves to create a divide that appears wider than it really is. Younger folks may not realize the vast culture-changing effects of the internet.

This is exactly why so many people are considering Trump. We've heard the same speeches and same rhetoric from candidates on both sides of the aisle for the last 20 years. Have they bettered our country? No! Our Immigration policy is downright dangerous, not just physically but financially. National debt, scary! Military downsizing, scary! Terroristic threat to Americans, scary! There are many serious issues facing our next president and Hillary Clinton is not a viable option for me! This is a person who was handed a great deal of responsibility as Secretary Of State, and failed miserably, and didn't even have the decency to own it! If Trump is the Republican nominee I will take the risk.
