Newsflash, we are in the politics forum. And I was sincere in his take on the speech instead of the veiled shot. We are on the same page here.

Although I'd wishfully hoped it would stay out of its assigned thread as to avoid it's likely demise.

 

 

Was hoping for more input from posters that avoid the controversial or politics thread but acknowledge the break room.

I tend to get the overwhelming majority of my news from BGP, so I'm relying on this thread to find out what the world thought about the speech.

 

So far I ain't learned much.

Perhaps, perhaps not. Not the point of this thread. Let's not say what we feel or think and instead discuss how the rest of the world is reacting. Our Presidents speech will be on a lot of front pages.

With all due respect his speech to me anyway, is about what Americans think of our president / speech / job performance. Any one of us coud had recited most of it before he gave it ... Guns are bad, Ban guns, it's the GOP's fault (and I am not republican), Don't blame Islam ...yada yada yada. I think those along with "Bush's fault" is his answer for anything.

America needs a Leader, regardless if Democrat , Republican or Independent. President "OBlame-U" is anything but a leader. He has lost any and all ability to deal with anything, has lost confidence of a large pct of Americans and practically all Foreign Leaders, including our strongest allie ... Israel / Netanyahu. The man is not a leader, he is a divider and has no concept of how to deal with anything, be it small, large, foreign or domestic.

Bottom line ....IMO the worst president in the history of this great country.

I like using a quote from the great Martin Luther King ... I judge Obama on "not the color of his skin but the content of his character", of which is none.

I know I went on a rant and that's why I rarely if ever post on threads like this. That's just my honest and imo , correct opinion of the man.

The speech came after meeting in Paris with other leaders, so I guess they all agree with him to an extent.

 

But to average person like me, all and everything he says goes in one ear and out the other if I even bother to listen to him. He has lied and mis-spoke so many times that I dont take him serious. As Im sure most others dont either in America or the world. Most see him as a clown that no one likes and doesnt back up what he says.

Even his own Party goes against him.

 

Plus the way he talks is very annoying, like he is trying to scold me or preach to me.

 

A lot see him as a hypocrite and not a leader.

Not sure how much could be taken from the speech from the international community. While it affirmed our desire to defeat terror threats, like most political speeches it was short on substance. It was not as if he was unveiling some kind of new plan worthy of garnering much feedback. The speech was more about rallying collective spirit. Again, the biggest mishap was waiting until now to deliver the speech.

I watched, not surprised by anything that was said, and not really much was said.

 

Obviously we are going to do what we need to do to fight terrorism...kind of....

 

Had he come out and admitted that pulling out ground troops in areas we had secured was a bad idea...I might be more interested.

 

We will never get the mess straight in this region of the country and certainly will not without ground troops....having said that, I'm not a fan of putting handcuffs on the troops on the ground. Just pull everyone out, let the whole thing implode and execute a domestic policy that is self sustaining....

As for the speech, I admit I listened half heartedly while getting ready for the important TV to follow.

I really have not yet seen anything on the world's reaction yet. Will try to catch up on my news tonight and will report anything I find from the international news.

I did not watch the speech live, but I did watch it online last night. President Obama directly addressed many of the issues, including ISIS, radical terrorists, and gun control. He stated that air strikes are more efficient and less risky than boots on the ground, and stated that the USA and its allies will continue to use air strikes to defeat ISIS. He stated that he personally feels that we are at war with ISIS and called upon Congress to formally declare war against ISIS. Hopefully they were listening.

 

President Obama addressed many difficult issues and gave a very fair (in my opinion) view of the issues we are facing. He admitted that many terroristic threats originate from radical Muslims, and he called upon the majority of Muslims to stand up & fight against the extremists.

 

Overall, I thought it was a strong speech. With that said, the plan President Obama called for must be carried out ASAP or it’ll fall upon deaf ears.
