December 7, 201510 yr My hope is that we can discuss in this thread how the world has/is reacting to last nights speech by our President regarding the shooting on Wednesday in California. I'm hoping that some of our more savvy affluent posters can provide us with some news articles from different parts of the world. Often times we as Americans are criticized for being out of touch with the rest of the world, often times rightfully so IMO. Let's try not to make this too much about opinions and more about News information and how it should be considered. I feel we often forget that when the President of the United States talks, the world listens. I'm hoping this thread provides us all with a lot of outsider perspective. Side note: I'm placing this thread in the break room because we don't really have a News forum. If a mod feels it should go in Controversial Issues or Politics then please move it accordingly.
December 7, 201510 yr Same ol', same ol' rhetoric from the apologist in chief. All he is wanting to do is pass his international failures on to whoever the next president might be.
December 7, 201510 yr ISIL just rakes my nerves. Don't care if it's the POTUS or not, why does everyone else on the planet call it ISIS? Petty, I know. As for the speech, I admit I listened half heartedly while getting ready for the important TV to follow.
December 7, 201510 yr :lol2: That only took one post. I tend to get the overwhelming majority of my news from BGP, so I'm relying on this thread to find out what the world thought about the speech. So far I ain't learned much.

December 7, 201510 yr come on papa. You're the master at veiled shots lobbed across the aisle, but I don't see much substance in your opinion on topics like these. Just the usual pinko commie remarks. I would seriously be interested in your take.
December 7, 201510 yr Daily Mail: Barack Obama says Muslims are our friends, neighbors and sports heroes | Daily Mail Online President Barack Obama used his Sunday night address on terrorism to reassure the American people that the San Bernardino shootings last week appear to be an isolated incident, despite one of the killers pledging allegiance to ISIS. The president firmly dismissed a change in strategy in the war against the extremists that would require combat troops on the ground in Iraq and Syria. And while the terrorist group is made up of 'thugs and killers' and is part of a 'cult of death', he again refused to call them 'radical Islamic terrorists'. Americans must not take out their grievances with the fanatics on followers of Islam, he said. 'Muslim Americans are our friends and our neighbors are coworkers, our sports heroes. And yes, they are our men and women in uniform who are willing to die in defense of our country,' the president said, speaking from the Oval Office. 'We have to remember that.' He also called on Congress to pass legislation barring individuals on the no-fly list from purchasing guns.

Perhaps, perhaps not. Not the point of this thread. Let's not say what we feel or think and instead discuss how the rest of the world is reacting. Our Presidents speech will be on a lot of front pages.

As for the speech, I admit I listened half heartedly while getting ready for the important TV to follow. I made a point to watch it. I agreed with somethings he had to say. With that said I'm hoping folks can provide us with perspectives both out of our norm and out of our country.

I know it's easy to get caught up but I wanted a forum for everyone to learn/hear something outside of national news and I think we are capable of that.
December 7, 201510 yr San Bernardino attack: Obama vows to overcome terror threat - BBC News [h=2]Analysis: Anthony Zurcher, BBC North America reporter [/h]President Barack Obama for the first time made a clear connection between a series of deadly attacks on US soil during his time in office. The Boston Marathon bombing and shootings at a military base in Texas, an Army recruiting station in Tennessee and now in San Bernardino all represent a "new phase" of "terrorist threat" to the US, he said. Mr Obama's goal was to convince an increasingly sceptical US public that he has a plan to address this danger - which doesn't involve large numbers of US forces in the Middle East, intrusive monitoring of American Muslims or framing the conflict as one with all of Islam. While the president may find support for a congressional authorisation of military force to fight IS, he will anger many with his call to prevent those on the terrorist watch list from purchasing firearms and place greater limits on the sale of "powerful assault weapons". Mr Obama may have ended his speech by urging Americans to unify around their common ideals, but there are few issues more divisive in the US than that of gun rights.

And I was sincere in his take on the speech instead of the veiled shot. We are on the same page here.
