I agree with everything you have said, but the logistics prevent me from attending. I would of attended the Beechwood/Pikeville game if it was at Louisville,Lexington, or even Richmond. Smaller venue does appeal to me though.

Attendance comparison for the Ohio championship games is now complete (The Div IV game is being played now, but no attendance was given for the Div IV game last year).

 

This year, the second in Columbus is down from 52753 to 51948, a difference of 805 or 1.53%

I haven't been to the finals at all since they moved it to WKU. I would have possibly gone this year for the Class A game, but the day and time, along with the location it wasn't going to happen.

My family did attend the 5A game . We love the venue. BG area is easy to figure out and tons of things to do. However, the way KHSAA handled the in between games was for lack of better term " just plain stupid "! We showed up in the fourth quarter and the 6A game. The score was 40 - 7 and they still would not allow anyone in for the following game! Not only would they not allow anyone in. They waited until that games trophy presentation was COMPLETLY over before anyone was allowed in. They had several hundred if not a thousand people just standing in the cold for an hour. Seems very un classy not very well thought out on the KHSAA part . The ticket prices were high enough to not have to show anymore greed! C'Mon MAN

I haven't attended a game since they moved to Bowling Green, and I wont. there was 6 of us that went every year from NKY to Louisville, but none of us want to drive all the way to BG

The central time zone start times stunk for those traveling from the Eastern time zone. The 5A game did not start till 10:00 est. That is pretty late for the game you have been playing for all season. I like WKU venue but there has to be a better plan when the host school has a winning season.

Would have liked to see the 1A, 2A, and 6A games. Long drive, one overnight stay and multiple games. Awesome plan. When schedule changed, to catch my games I would have had to stay three nights, or make multiple 8 hour round trip drives. Opted to go to 1A and light fireplace, turn on Christmas tree, open a pinot noir, and turn IPad to BGP for the other games.

It is interesting how many complained about the schedule this weekend in Bowling Green, but only one of the Championships had a decrease in attendance from the corresponding class championship from last year.

Class 2A was up from 6188 to 6253 or 65 people or up 1.1%

Class 3A was up from 6139 to 7198 or 1059 people or up 17.3%

Class 4A was up from 7521 to 8461 or 940 people or up 12.5%

Class 5A was up from 7338 to 7755 or 417 people or up 5.7%

Class 6A was up from 8418 to 8629 or 211 people or up 2.5%

 

Overall attendance was up for 41937 to 44022 or 2085 people or 5.0%

There is no comparison between watching a game on TV vs actual attendance. The dun of planning the trip, tailgating, talking the game up with other fans, and the excitement in the air before during, and if you win, after the game, is worth the price of admission IMO.

 

worth the price and then some. nothing compares to a great high school football game. college, nfl, you name it. You cant beat watching a group of young kids willing to give up their time to strive for one goal as a team, especially when for most of them, the end of the season means the end of a part of their life.
