The white folks that I grew up around in my neighborhood in Covington that were the "most" vocally racist (although it wasn't only them) tended to be the ones who had transplanted from other areas of the state, and were the least ambitious at accomplishing much in their lives, and it would appear that to pump up their own egos and to feel at least better than somebody else, it seemed that it was all too convenient for them to sound their negativity about blacks.

 

This was all too obvious, and I was probably around 10 years old when I started to recognize how apparent this was.

 

Adding to that, if parents of the kids in the neighborhood drove home negative racist attitudes, it wasn't too hard to see how many of those kids picked up similar attitudes.

 

Quite often the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Years ago while working at the University of Cincinnati I became friends with, and was eventually out to an Indian guy co-worker who was also new to the US while studying mechanical engineering.

 

He freely accepted me though he said there were no gay people in India. I assured him that there were. We got along great and went to concerts together, and he introduced me to Indian food, and I toured him around the city, and we had many discussions enlightening each other about cultural similarities and differences in each other's countries.

 

After completing his studies he moved near Holland, Michigan to work in the auto industry and initially took an apartment where he became friends with his landlord who welcomed him to join his Christian church. He informed him that he was Hindu, but he was happy with joining to be apart of the community, and to also have a place to meditate and pray.

 

Shortly thereafter he invited me to visit, and beforehand all I knew about this area was that Holland had a yearly Tulip Festival.

 

While visiting, his landlord stopped by and immediately upon meeting and shaking hands with him, he without hesitation quizzed me on what I thought of black people. This took me by surprise as it wasn't something that I would expect anyone to ask me when first meeting, and it being his very first point of topic.

 

I simply just said that I've found there to be both decent and not so decent people of all races. He quickly dismissed my answer and continued on to make many negative remarks regarding blacks.

 

While driving around the city with my friend he said that there was concern that he wanted to express to me, and continued on saying that he was worried that I would go to hell for being gay.

 

I asked him what prompted this all of the sudden, and he said that where he was attending church he had heard sermons discussing this. I told him to please be careful with his new associations and what they were indoctrinating him with.

 

A few months later he came back to Cincinnati to visit and told me that he no longer attended that church because while attending one day (He was the only Indian there) he was reading their bulletin where in it they said "Let us pray for our Hindu brothers and sisters in our community for their minds are possessed by Satan".

 

This freaked him out and he now was getting first hand experience with these people's backwardness. We discussed that perhaps they were so bone headed stupid that they confused Hinduism to be Voodooism, but nonetheless no matter what he was wasn't acceptable to them until he was a Christian, and of course anti-black for good measure.

So true.

Granted, who knows the percentage? Whether it's 70% , 40% , 10% or 2% However, if you think there aren't some folks on here and across this country that would quietly be okay if this President was taken out, then you deny more than the science of climate change. I can tell you that I have some neighbors that I know would not lose a minute of sleep if the President was executed. Hell, my mom would probably sleep well. So, yes, I stand by the statement but not the percentage.

I said that the 70% is likely not the case. 5 or 10% of the population is not out of the question, however. I don't think names should be posted. If my sweet little mother , wouldn't lose sleep over it, I'm sure a few others wouldn't. I would hope that no one in the country would want the President harmed. Just not the case, though.

I'm sure there are 5% or so in all sectors of the population that would wish harm on a political leader they detest. I have no doubt that 5% is not an unreasonable overstatement. These message boards wouldn't be exempt from those kind of morons. So I stand by the statement. I certainly don't feel anything would be achieved, however, by my pointing out those who I feel would probably fall into that category. I just don't think that would benefit anyone. Of course there are people on all message boards that are racists. Racism exists in all segments of society. We must take heart from the fact that, while we all have our biases and prejudices, most of us are not blatant, raging, dangerous racists. But you can bet there are those who post here and on other boards that wouldn't be bothered if harm came to this particular President.

I've stated on here since I first began posting that we all have racial prejudices. Do you really think there is not a small percentage of people that have such contempt for people like Hillary or Barack Obama that they wouldn't care if something bad befell them?
