I find it hard to put NCC down that far. A case for them as high as 2 could be made. Probably just splitting hairs.

 

I agree. I too feel that a case could be made for them to be a little higher in the rankings. I'm guessing however that they're quite content with teams assuming that they're not all that entering the season.

 

Any team overlooking them would be foolish. I would doubt that any top team would even consider entering a game with them that shortsighted anyhow. On paper they may have lost a lot, but I still think they've got the goods to surprise some of the teams rated ahead of them.

 

Certainly CovCath has more going for them than any team with the benefit of an endless bench etc.., and no doubt would be pre-season #1 in anybody's book, but the Breds will certainly be competitive with the rest of the pack, and still do their best to even hang with the Blue Colonels.

 

Coach Dawn commented that offensively they might not have the benefit of a team that can execute a couple of quick passes to be in position to score like last season, but I still expect to see his players methodically fine tuned with a similar mindset. Newport for example should be able to play them much closer than in the past with some of the higher level players they have, but I'm still seeing a NewCath discipline that I expect to make all the difference.

I ranked them like that because you could honestly make a case for any of the three being #1 in the region....just depends on what style of play you prefer.

 

Weyer is going to be the most dominant player in the region this year. No doubt in my mind. Can step out and hit the three, but also has the size and strength to dominate inside. Needs to work on his ball handling but if anyone saw him on the EYBL circuit this summer, his all around game has improved tremendously.

 

Vonhandorf doesn't have the athleticism that Weyer and McNeil have (IMO) but the kid is one of the toughest guards in the state and is a winner. Struggles with his outside shot, but is the most fundamentally sound guard in the region and doesn't make many mistakes.

 

McNeil has the best ALL AROUND game in the region, IMO. Can defend all 5 positions. Can play all 5 positions on offense. One of the most pure shooters in the region and will likely average close to 10 rpg.
