Best back-up? Turk? Thompson? Carter? Kitna?

That's a tough one...

No love for the Throwin Samoan?

Or Akili Smith?

You can't use stats to compare QBs from different eras. The passing games, along with the rules, are completely different.

IMO Kenny Anderson is the best QB ever followed by Boomer. Cook is out simply because of his short career. I then take CP.

The purchase I regret most in my entire life is an Akili Smith jersey.

That's why I said in post #8 you can't just go by the numbers....

Different eras, eye test, etc...

But I posted the numbers because I don't think most people know them and I think we all suffer from "selective" memory when it comes to our younger days.

I was surprised how bad Boomer's winning and passing percentages actually were... And that dropped him for me.

I also have Kenny number 1 currently though...

Heck, I don't think Phillip Rivers is as good as Dan Fouts either... But Rivers is breaking all his passing records with the Chargers and many, if not most, will say Rivers is the Chargers greatest QB of all time...

I know injuries are part of the game but a lot of wins were lost with the injuries to Cook and Palmer. Woulda shoulda coulda.

Agreed, with Cook and Coach Walsh... Probably would've been the Bengals with 4 Super Bowls instead of the Steelers.

I loved Esiason but his career record in Cincy was 62-61..

So my order, and this is only because Greg Cook was injured and even I believe injuries kept us from seeing the best out of Palmer...

Two different things too... Overa and post season...

Overall:

1. Anderson

2. Dalton

3. Palmer

4. Esiason

Agree with #1 and #4...#2 and #3 interchangeable IMO

#1. Jeff Blake

Over Akili, you need to step back from the adult beverages. You're clearly off your rocker!

:lol2:

And better defenses under Zimmer too.

And by this I mean, more opportunistic at getting to the QB and forcing turnovers... Stopping big drives when needed, etc. not just yards allowed as defenses are rated.

Palmer basically had Zimmer for 2 years and only one of those years was the defense as good as Dalton has had it. So palmer having better defenses is wrong.

As an opponent, I'd rather face Dalton or Palmer than Anderson or Boomer. All day, every day, no matter the circumstance. I'd probably rather face Palmer than Dalton, mainly because I think pressure bothers Palmer more.

I have no idea what Palmers is but I read today that Daltons qbr rating when teams pressure him is one of the worst in the league and is a 7 for a qbr and has been under 10 his whole career. On the flip side Dalton has a qbr of 88 when he is not pressured and has 19 td passes this year when not pressured. So pressure impacrs Daltons performance more than most abs. So Palmer might be at the bottom of that too, but I can only give stats on Dalton since I just saw that today.

It's simple I rate the qbs on who I think would give the team the best chance to win no matter what the talent level is around them. So I would rank them

1. Anderson

2. Boomer

3. Palmer

4. Dalton

Dalton will end up with the better record and playoff appearances than the other ones. However he also has had the best chance for getting wins despite of his play because of talent level around him I think if you take the other three qbs they make the playoffs the last 4 years too. However if you put Dalton on their teams, I think Dalton and the team does worst.

If Dalton keeps looking like he is this year and with the same demeanor he carries himself with now, then I may move him up.
