Rank Bengals Quarterbacks All Time

Featured Replies

Number 1 and 2 are pretty easy Boomer and Ken Anderson. But mainly what I'm asking is Carson or Andy number 3? Andy made playoffs 4 straight years, but just hasn't been able to get it done. Yet. But Carson in his prime in Cincinnati was arguably the third best QB in the league behind Brady and Peyton. Had he not got hurt on that dreadful night against Pittsburgh who knows where they would have gone. But besides 2 or 3 years Carson was rather mediocre, but he didn't have nearly the weapons on offense or the defense that Andy has had. My Rankings:

1a. Boomer

1b. Anderson

3. Andy

4. Palmer

The real question is would you rather have Carson in his '05-'06 Prime or Dalton right now.

Palmer had just as good of offensive weapons as Dalton.

I loved Esiason but his career record in Cincy was 62-61..

So my order, and this is only because Greg Cook was injured and even I believe injuries kept us from seeing the best out of Palmer...

Two different things too... Overa and post season...

Overall:

1. Anderson

2. Dalton

3. Palmer

4. Esiason

Playoffs:

1. Esiason

2. Anderson

3. Tie between Dalton and Palmer (again injury screwed '05)

Palmer had just as good of offensive weapons as Dalton.

And better defenses under Zimmer too.

And better defenses under Zimmer too.

And by this I mean, more opportunistic at getting to the QB and forcing turnovers... Stopping big drives when needed, etc. not just yards allowed as defenses are rated.

As an opponent, I'd rather face Dalton or Palmer than Anderson or Boomer. All day, every day, no matter the circumstance. I'd probably rather face Palmer than Dalton, mainly because I think pressure bothers Palmer more.

I'm gonna save all my BGP FRIENDS some time on research with the next few posts... Theser are their career stats...

Obviously, there are different eras at play, "the eye test", etc. so you shouldn't just go by numbers... But here is how they rank.

Anderson - 16

Esiason - 10

Palmer - 7

Dalton - in year 5

Compl %:

Palmer - 62.9

Dalton - 62.1

Anderson - 59.3

Esiason - 56.5

Career yards:

Anderson - 33,838

Esiason - 27, 149

Palmer - 22,694

Dalton - 17,496

Yards per attempt:

Esiason - 7.6

Anderson - 7.3

Dalton - 7.2

Palmer - 7.1

TD passes: And Int:

Anderson - 197 (160)

Esiason - 187 (131)

Palmer - 154 (100)

Dalton - 119 (71)

QBR rating for career:

Dalton - 87.8

Palmer - 86.9

Esiason - 83.1

Anderson - 81.9

Dalton only in his 5th year has a legit shot to own all Bengal passing records before his career is over.... Barring injury that is.

And hopefully he and Marvin and the gang can breakthrough the playoff wall.

No love for the Throwin Samoan?
