I always thought of America being a Christian nation, but the way it is today I think we just have some Christians in American and America is a sinful disaster of a society.

I always thought that the standard for Christianity was "are we doing what Jesus would do?"

 

Somehow, I just don't see Jesus saying, "Nope, keep them out. All of them. Kids, women, old people, those running from terrorism. We don't want them."

Buddy I've been saying this all week but I've been using homeless vets as my example. Apparently, people feel more sorry for Syrians who passed out candy in Syria after 9/11.

Maybe that's because they're rife with abuse and fraud and need to be re-vamped. And maybe that's the reason those opposing more Syrian refugees have zero confidence in the government's ability to vet them.

I'm guessing the same amount as you..none. And I don't know anybody that does....which is why it's silly to make the analogy or compare this country's homeless situation to the refugee situation. And the fact of the matter is there are programs in place to aid our homeless. But a big part of our homeless situation is related to mental illness and that's a whole other issue.

 

So while I haven't taken any in, I do actively donate money to assistance programs, and volunteer my time...donating a couple hours on Monday at the Freestore Foodbank.

Again, mental illness is the main contributing factor to homelessness, and there's nothing I can do in the confines of my home to improve their situation, which likely requires long term care and assistance, that I'm not qualified to provide. The refugees, however require only safe haven and in theory only temporary assistance, which as a country we are completely quality to provide. And yes there should be limitations and conditions. That was in reference to the poster that said the assistance provided would be permanent, not temporary.

 

As far as an acceptable ratio of dangerous to non dangerous...I guess it would be no different than the acceptable ratio for our native born folks. I do know I'm more likely to be hurt, robbed, injured attacked by a US citizen than a refugee. I've heard on this board many times there are no guarantees in life. Thousands of foreigners stream in and out of this country legally every day, with barely more than a glance from customs, and have unfettered access to go anywhere they want. And I'm supposed to be more worried about 10000 refugees that have been waiting several years for the outside chance of coming here and have been at least somewhat vetted and will be monitored at least initially. I'm much more worried about protecting myself and my property ftom the heroin addict (or 3) that possibly live around the corner from me.
