November 19, 201510 yr You're speaking from emotion. I'm here to discuss this from a factual side and the merits of the points brought up in the article. No I'm speaking from common sense and observation. How many more attacks do you need to happen for you to be convinced?
November 19, 201510 yr Author I think that is a fairly easy thing to say, given that you probably haven't been directly impacted by a terrorist who slipped through the system. Do you think those in Paris, who lost loved ones over the weekend, would be as willing? I think its easy to have an all inclusive perspective when the situation hasn't directly impact you. ISIS has made it very clear that they intend to attack the US. Given their proven ability to come through on similar claims they have made, there is nothing leading me to believe that they wont come through on this one. Although you don't believe that terrorists can come to the US under the cover as a refugee, you must be willing to admit that by allowing refugees coming from a hotbed of terrorism into our country, the chances of such happening are greater. I'm willing to change my mind but as of now I don't believe this. I think terrorist can enter our country through a myriad of ways and don't see any compelling evidence that obtaining refugee status poses a greater threat than any other method.
November 19, 201510 yr Author No I'm speaking from common sense and observation. How many more attacks do you need to happen for you to be convinced? What have you observed that points to Syrian refugees posing a great threat to the good 'ol US of A?

I think terrorist can enter our country through a myriad of ways and don't see any compelling evidence that obtaining refugee status poses a greater threat than any other method. I'm just as concerned that whoever carries out the next terror attack was BORN in the USA. Look at the damage we do to ourselves every day. The terrorists don't need to attack us...we are already killing ourselves, and we've created such fear and hysteria that we are losing sight of and moving farther away from the values that the country was built on.
November 19, 201510 yr When you say these people who do you mean? Non-Christian, American hating, terrorist...non-specific to any geographic alignment

I think terrorist can enter our country through a myriad of ways and don't see any compelling evidence that obtaining refugee status poses a greater threat than any other method. So you don't see how accepting people from a region that breeds terrorism can increase the possibility of a terrorist slipping through the system? You're putting a lot of faith in a system that you and I both have serious questions about. I ask you this, if we are able to set up refugee camps in Syria, why then would we still be taking these refugees in? If the intent is to provide a sanctuary from violence, and that can be done within the borders of Syria, why then would we allow them access? You're right, terrorists can enter out country through a myriad of ways. Wouldn't it be in the best interest of our security to minimize those ways?
November 19, 201510 yr Author Non-Christian, American hating, terrorist...non-specific to any geographic alignmentWhat about the Christians that hate America and act as terrorist? It's curious you use that caveat.
November 19, 201510 yr Author I have read the article, and have numerous contentions with it. One of my strongest contentions is under the sub heading "Security Screenings for Refugees." One of the points claims that those who have housed opposition forces will not be allowed access to the United States. I don't have any idea of how that can be proven or dis-proven, but I have my doubts that it actually can be. Also, the claim that there will be "stringent background and security check." How do you run a background check on someone that has no previously recorded background? Its not like the US is keeping tabs on every person in Syrian, so what will our government be using to base these background checks. Do you oppose the plausibility of establishing refugee camps within Syria? Wouldn't this be a solution that minimizes the potential risk of a potential terrorist entering our country and not being discovered until it is too late? I emailed Alex Nowrasteh and got the following response: Beside the government databases, which include tens of millions of persons of interest overseas, background checks are also based on interviews with people who know, could know, or claim to know the potential refugee. Excluding the UNHCR period of investigation, if there is any phrase from any interview that the refugee housed opposition forces then that is used as a good reason to bar the person based on material support. In almost all cases, there is no way for the person accused of that to clear their name.
November 19, 201510 yr Author This was my original email: I found your article to be extremely thorough and thought-provoking. Excellent job. While discussing it with friends I had the question posed to me. Was wondering if you could be of assistance? One of my strongest contentions is under the sub heading "Security Screenings for Refugees." One of the points claims that those who have housed opposition forces will not be allowed access to the United States. If you could help I'd be very appreciative.
November 19, 201510 yr What about the Christians that hate America and act as terrorist? It's curious you use that caveat. What about them ? Is there evidence to support that a large, defined, well funded, well organized group of "Christians that hate America" are publicizing that they are going to strike on American soil ? If there is, then we need to address that situation as well. This question fails to pass the sanity test because of all the points to my question above. We have identified a known group that wants to kill us and we want to give another medium for them to enter the killing fields....and somehow that should be supported ? I doubt that there is a large contingent of Christians that hate America and act as terrorist...I will concede there are deranged individuals of all nationalities and religion that want to do bad things.... I feel confident in stating that ISIS rises well above that standard

November 19, 201510 yr What medium are we giving them? Commercial airlines? Should we stop all flights? Taking in refugees... I have no issue with ceasing or minimizing / redirecting flights from known terrorist regions...we do it all time and no one says a word about it. You clearly are not going to open up to see that anyone advocating for ceasing or at least slowing the refugee process isn't saying that there aren't a number of other venues for terrorist to enter the country...we know that there are. The question is why would we knowingly create another opportunity for them to enter ?
