spindoc Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Dalton ?disappointed? with Watt's Red Rider BB gun comment | Yardbarker.com I admit I chuckled when I watched it live. One of the comments below the article "First world ginger problems".
footmaster Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I said in the other thread... I'm just glad Dalton said anything at all... Shows me he's coming out of that bland shell.
lawildcat Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Boo hoo, Andy. Seriously, what's the big deal with this comment? "Our goal was to come out here and make the Red Rifle look like a Red Rider BB gun, and I think we did that tonight,” Watt said of Dalton, referencing the quarterback’s nickname. “He’s a great player and they’re a great team, but tonight our coaches put together a great gameplan.”
spindoc Posted November 17, 2015 Author Posted November 17, 2015 He'd have been better off simply saying nothing, IMO, because you know how a comment like that grows legs.
LCDAWGS19 Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I'm a ginger, and I thought it was HILARIOUS. It was a combo of Houston's defense playing pretty well, and the Bengals offense not playing well. I'm glad they got the loss out of the way. This team has enough to deal with, and didn't need the pressure of going 16-0.
footmaster Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I hope it grows legs... This team has needed a little fire for the last few years... Dalton is allowed to show a little emotion. IMO that's what he's been missing the last few years the most. Same could be said for Watt, which is what Andy said. They both said each was a great player, but Watt took a personal shot and Dalton said that was disappointing to hear... To me, Dalton more or less took a higher road than most people would've after a tough loss... Doesn't help matters that he doesn't have the city's full support when he's helped the Bengals to their best start in team history and he had virtually no help all night from his two best playmakers... He was frustrated... Plain and simple. No biggie.
Voice of Reason Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Another example of today's media at its best or worst, depending on how you look at it. Headline hunters. Bottom line, much ado about nothing.
MJAlltheWay24 Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 So many people on Twitter last night were upset with Watt's comments. I had zero problem with what he said and thought it was funny. I'm sure he thought it up on Thursday of last week, but the Bengals gave him an opportunity to use it. Wish they hadn't.
footmaster Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Agree with VOR... It's the media trying to dig for a story where there isn't one. They asked Dalton in the heat of a loss what he thought and he responded in the moment. For anyone that doesn't think Andy should've said anything... I ask you, "would Aaron Rodgers have said anything about Watt?" I think he would and I'm talking about pre- Super Bowl Champion Rodgers too... He always had a little swagger and a chip on his shoulder... I think it's good for Dalton, but only time will tell. Dalton has spent the first 4 seasons being unassuming and hanging quietly in the background showing little emotion... It hasn't translated to Championships... Let's see if his newfound fire will yield different results...
HammerTime Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 JJ Watt is such a try hard. I didn't think it was that funny, but I have no problem with it. No big deal.
Clyde Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Andy D found the ONE way to top his continuing inability to perform under the national lights. He opened his yapper. Innocent comment by Watt. Play on words. Wasn't an insult. Wasn't a "shot." Andy questioning his "integrity" says more about AD than anything Watt did. Just . Shut. Up.
UKMustangFan Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 The only reason people don't have an issue with Watt's comment is because it was him saying it. Let's say Greg Hardy would've made the same comment....Opinions of it would've been totally different. This infallibility that Watt has is something else. No issue with Watt's comment (although I thought it was toolish), and no issue with Dalton's response. :idunno:

Innocent comment by Watt. Play on words. Wasn't an insult. Wasn't a "shot." Andy questioning his "integrity" says more about AD than anything Watt did. Just . Shut. Up. One... Andy played fine under the lights... He would've had another 70 yards passing and at least one TD IMO if Eiffert would've had a "normal" performance. Two. Dalton was right to call out Watt... If the Bengals had won the game on that final drive... He wouldn't have made a stupid comment about Watt. Watt should be above it... Even the girl interviewing him said "Wow" when he made the comment and that's the only reason Watt back pedaled and said Dalton was a great player, yadda yada. And Dalton would've have said nothing if he wasn't asked about it... Watt made his stupid comment unprompted.
NKY Bandit Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Watt could have been more tactful and used the standard 'defense played hard and had a great game plan' without his intended slight of Dalton. Made him look little to me. Glad AD said something. No room in the league for a nice guy I guess.
