Shooterx3....(Morgan Co.)

 

The Cougars went 2-1 this summer beating Estill County and Menifee County by double digits...they lost to Montgomery Co. in their 3rd game of the day, however, the Cougars only took 7 players I believe for the 3 game, 1 game event.

 

Morgan County will have a regional player of the year candidate in 6'3" 210 senior Katlin Haney. He is IMO a top 3 preseason pick right now...his ability to shoot the basketball and ability to create off the dribble is distinguished.

 

In addition, Logan May is finally healthy...6'1" Cameron Dunn (sophomore) has unlimited potential...heard he bombed 4 consecutive three's in 4 straight trips down the floor last week....6'2" Brandon Ferguson (Junior) is physical and has great athletic ability scoring well into double digits last week.

 

Not available last week were 2 starters from last years team. Derrick Young and Wes Montgomery...John Robert Henderson is very athletic and strong and should contribute.

 

As far as putting stock into summer play, you guys know how we roll here... Last summer the Cougars went 5-0 in the summer and finished 22-4. Correlating big summer wins to the following season and playing a lot of games is not an exact measure of winter success. The Cougars have been working/practicing every day before the dead period with individual instruction and should once again yield a quality product on the floor that will fundamentally be able to guard and be competitive each game.

 

While some enjoy taking jabs at the 16th and level of competition, please look no further than your own areas of Kentucky. For the last 2 years, talent level in basketball at the H.S. level is dragging. Will it be better this season? I have no idea. Talent and quality teams comes in cycles for many.

 

Teams that SHOULD be better are Bath County (Metz, Williams, and Clemons) and Menifee County (Cody Howard 6'5" man-child with exceptional hands, shot, and ability)

 

Fleming County is a few years away but have an incredible crop of young talent who will burst on the scene sooner than later.

 

Raceland has a strong nucleus of JV kids back that should challenge

 

East Carter has Drew Johnson and will be scrappy.

 

No tree toppers in the 16th region outside of Rose Hill, which could play well into the Royals favor with Euton and the development of 6'10" Jackson.

 

Lewis County will be young again but always has shooters

 

I'm sure the 16th will be as competitive as always.

There is no bashing. Just a request to know more about the other teams that are being ranked BEHIND them. After all, a ranking is subjective and people want to know why the other teams are rated behind them. Is there any other teams you feel could challenge the top 2 already mentioned???

 

Then tell fans from the other teams to join Bluegrass Preps and put their info on the site. We all get tired of reading post after post about your AAU observations, but we do and we don't trash you for posting it.

Rose Hill has a 6'2" point guard by the name of Chad Jackson who many believe is the top guard in the Class of 2010.

I saw Ashland play earlier this year. Thomas? pt gaurd did not play well, saw him last year, played the same. What has happened to Ashland?

It is indeed time for a switch in Ashland.

What's wrong with the one you have? He seems to get the job done year in and year out.

It would have been nice to see Wayne Breeden land at Ashland rather than at Owensboro. Of course, as a Rose Hill partisan, I probably shouldn't want to see a change at Ashland but Coach Breeden is a class person and a fine coach and would add much to our area.

I think you just set a record for jumping on a coach before the season even starts! Coach Flynn doesnt do the playing and there seems to be a shortage of basketball players in Ashland right now. It all runs in cycles, but I think your bigger issue may be with the youth leagues that try to put to much control on where a kid can or cant play, I'll admit I have done my share of complaining over the years, but this is a little early in the season for "coach bashing"

Thomas has been looking very impressive in the summer camps. I heard that he did very well at the Western KY team camp a week or two ago.

As has Goliath, I have heard a number of Ashland "insiders" express in strong terms their feeling that a change is needed. On the other hand, shooterx3 makes valid points concerning the development of Ashland's elementary and middle school athletes.
