Below is the information I know about what happened with the accident and Brian's injuries. I debated on posting this information because I don't want to take away from the prayer requests or the updates on Brian. However, after consulting with a few people, I've decided to post it so people can see what made a bad situation even worse.

 

Brian was a passenger in a car with 4 other people. He was sitting in the back middle seat of the car (with only a lap belt). The driver was drunk and hit a tree. The driver and 3 other passengers fled from the scene, leaving Brian behind and not calling 911. It was 5 hours before the wreck (and Brian) were found. Brian had passed out due to the injuries, a cut open stomach and both of his colons being cut. In the 5 hours before he was discovered, hypothermia set in and he had a liter of blood in his stomach. He has undergone two surgeries and is in a medically induced coma to allow for healing. Police may have the name of the driver but are hoping Brian can provide the names of the other passengers when he wakes up.

 

Continued prayers for Brian and his family.

We call out college athletes for much less than acts like this.

 

JT Barrett correctly got called out for driving while impaired. No one was hurt but the potential was there. Deserved the criticism.

 

What these guys reportedly did is 1000X WORSE!

 

As a college-aged kid once upon a time I KNOW I drove while impaired so I'm not some guy who doesn't "get it." I did it. Not proud of it. All, including Brian, need to be taken to task for hopping into a vehicle while drunk. We'd all tell our son that.

 

However, to LEAVE a kid to possibly DIE is not only cowardly and dastardly it seems like it's criminal. Not sure . These guys NEED to be named and called out and potentially have to face the judge.

 

Heck, these guys may be Covington Catholic kids. I may know them. I don't care if they are. I don't care if they're Conner boys. They HAVE to AT LEAST be publicly shamed.

 

Do NOT tell me "we all make mistakes. " Driving drunk is a "mistake." Leaving a friend to potentially die because YOU may get in trouble is about as cowardly as it gets. There is no rationalization that suffices.

 

I can't tell you how disgusted I am by this. I can't imagine what Brian's parents are going through. They are THRILLED he's still alive. They're MAD because he got into the car. THey are spitting mad that his friends left him.

Pretty much. Can't believe out of 4 guys, not one of them didn't have the decency (or sense) to at the very least call and get him some help. Hopefully they'll find the guts to come forward.

 

I've already shared this with my son (who is Brian's age and played on a summer baseball team with him a couple of years). Don't even get in a car with anyone who has been drinking.

Also many of his classmates, many traveling hours where at the hospital on Saturday.

On Sunday over 20 of his classmates plus many parents where at St. Agnes for 9:30 mass.

With news we received last night and today do not under estimate the power of prayer.

WOW! Simply WOW! In time, the names will come out and hopefully all will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

He has been moved to the Acute Care Unit today. His recovery is going very well. Still has his feeding tube. Sat up in a chair yesterday. They want to get him on his feet today and walk around.

Like others, I cannot believe not ONE of FOUR "friends" would get this young man help. Did the driver not think the car would be traced back to him? Thank God this young man survived.

 

Surely the driver will face charges. I don't know the law, but I don't think the other 3 cowards are liable legally. Morally, they are all 4 bankrupt.

Brian's feeding tube has been removed. He is walking the hallways with help from his parents.

 

Tentative date for him to come home is Tuesday if things keep progressing well.

Might want to hold off on bashing his buddies. I was told he also ran from the accident and collapsed in a yard where the owner found him lying.

That is correct. We need to hold off placing blame until we get the story from the family and not 3rd person.

 

What we need to concentrate on is Brian's recovery which is going very well.
