Praying for Brian and his family.

Initial online accident report said minor injuries. When he got to the hospital there was internal bleeding. He made it through the first surgery. He will need more surgery. He is stable now.

 

This was the exact update we received in Mass today from the Covington Catholic chaplain.

News from Lexington KY. Second surgery went very well. Will be in the ICU another day and possibly 10 more days for recovery.

Makes it worse that the other kids fled and didn't call 911. Made the situation much worse for Brian with the delay in medical attention.

Thoughts and prayers to Brian and his family for a quick and full recovery.

Below is the information I know about what happened with the accident and Brian's injuries. I debated on posting this information because I don't want to take away from the prayer requests or the updates on Brian. However, after consulting with a few people, I've decided to post it so people can see what made a bad situation even worse.

 

Brian was a passenger in a car with 4 other people. He was sitting in the back middle seat of the car (with only a lap belt). The driver was drunk and hit a tree. The driver and 3 other passengers fled from the scene, leaving Brian behind and not calling 911. It was 5 hours before the wreck (and Brian) were found. Brian had passed out due to the injuries, a cut open stomach and both of his colons being cut. In the 5 hours before he was discovered, hypothermia set in and he had a liter of blood in his stomach. He has undergone two surgeries and is in a medically induced coma to allow for healing. Police may have the name of the driver but are hoping Brian can provide the names of the other passengers when he wakes up.
