When Flaget closed in 1974 what school absorbed their students?

No one school. Some to Bishop David, some to St. X, some to DeSales, some to Trinity and some across the river to Providence HS.

Watched it with my dad, he really was excited. Class of 58.

Knew nothing about the school and was riveted. Well done.

It was a great school, just stayed in the West End too long, needed to move similar to what St. X did. Maybe X saw what happened to Flaget and moved reluctantly. Can't remember what year X moved.

Where was X's original campus?

2nd and Broadway in downtown Louisville, I believe.

I didn't know that.

That is where the campus was before Poplar Level Road but I think one of the X alumnus on her have said that was the second location, the original supposedly was also downtown but was quickly outgrown as Irish and Germans immigrated to Louisville in the late 1800's so the Xavierans bought the property on 2nd and Broadway. Can any of the X guys verify this?

I looked it up. In 1864 X opened somewhere on 4th Street. In 1890 it moved to the Newcomb estate on 2nd and Broadway. In 1961 it moved to its current location.

That was very well done. I've always admired the sense of community present in Catholic schools. Flaget is an example of how the school doors may close but the spirit will always remain.

CWB - thanks for sharing this. My father graduated from Flaget in 1953. I see him in some of the old team photos.
