How did Ben Guidugli of Highlands do?

 

I had him rushing for 13 yards on one carry and 74 yards on three catches, but the biggest play he was in was the fumble that gave Tennessee the ball.

I think some key factors in this one was.

1-Qb play-Anderson would be in a litle groove then as it happens in allstar games he would be removed. When he would come back in he would take a few plays to get back into the swing of things.

 

Black- To me and others I spoke to he looked lost most of the time when he was in there and this led to a lot of bad series for the offense.

* This is not a knocked on this young man just something that myself and a few others picked up on.

2-The Tennessee line dominated the Kentucky line.

3-Tennessee players acted like they wanted to play and win where as the Kentucky players for the most part seemed to be only going through the motions. Last year while standing on the Kentucky side line my ears hurt from the coaches fire up the players and then the players responding. This year the Kentucky sideline was more like a Sunday church service.

 

Again these are only one old guys thoughts and in the real world mean very little if anything.

This turned out to be a 1,000 mile road trip and after giving it a day I was not all that impressed with the stadium. Tthe playing surface was nice but, the surroundings were very non-college like. I know this means very little but one would think that this game deserved better.

Most of my thoughts have been covered however I still have a few thoughts/answers:

 

KY had a lot of trouble defending the run and KY looked lost defending the pitch back.

 

TN looked a step quicker all night.

 

Chaffin had a solid game fielding punts and was used mostly has a blocking WR on offense. I believe he had a big block on Warford's long run in the second half. Overall solid game for this role player.

 

TN didn't have an answer for Guidugli (as a possession receiver) in the first half. In the second half KY got away from throwing to him other than an out pattern that was a little overthrown. Guidugli did fumble but it was on a reverse of sorts and those things happen.

 

Both the QBs had trouble getting in a groove but Anderson impressed at times.

 

Warfold looked very good.

 

I may take some heat for this but Micah Johnson looks 20lbs overweight. He is still very very good but heavy in my opinion.

 

KY had more talent.

 

Turnovers/penalties/mistakes killed KY.

 

The TN players were hungry.

 

KY lacked intensity.

 

The stadium and surrounding area was run down but the event was well planned and operated.

I could see that. Speed is the name of the game. They will take a fast SS and bulk them up some to LB rather than a big strong guy who is a step slow.

I think Kentucly in the future needs to go with three quarterbacks on their roster. I know Burke and Fidler opted out but there has to be a quarterback in a passing style offense that could have helped out. Fritz from Fleming or Woodward from Owensboro Catholic come to mind.

 

Tennessee may not have had many D-1 players on the roster but the three players that hurt Kentucky all night long are headed to JCs or a CC and that tells me they have D-1 talent but not D-1 grades.

 

What happened to Rod Johnson? Carried twice in the first half and was never heard from again. Warford was impressive but Kentucky's corps of RBs appeared waaaaay down this year.

 

Tennessee's two INTs came in the end zone so it actually could have been worse than it was.

 

When Johnson left the game with a cramp, Tennessee began running up the middle and picked up good chunks of yardage.

 

I still feel Kentucky stole the game last year against a team with a little more talent. Tennessee stole it right back this year.

 

One thing that concerns me is this. Tennessee had 13 or so top players opt out of the game for various reasons. Kentucky really needed to hammer Tennessee in this game to send a message and get the Tennessee people to get their best players for the game. With Friday's result, we may never see the best Tennessee players in this game ever again unless the date of the game changes.

Kentucky had over 100 yds of offense in the first qtr and then finished the game with about 235. They were balanced and throwing the football down the field. After the first qtr, it seemed like the offense had no rythm and was just drawing straws for plays.

 

Micah Johnson will not play LB at UK. He is too slow to play LB at that level. He will be a bigtime down lineman as he is a physical monster. He also made a couple of bonehead plays with 2 personal fouls.

 

Tennessee was the faster team and played much like the Kentucky team has the previous 4 years. TN acted like they wanted to be there, KY did not.

I agree. Johnson has always looked a little heavy, and it has seemed to affect his conditioning at times.

Another random thought. Dunbar kicker Sean O'Brien was booming some punts in this game and had several 60+ field goals with the wind in warmups. The Racers may be getting steal here. Also, the winning TD was scored by Charlie Jordan of Memphis White Station, who is also Murray State bound.

Sean O'Brien is a steal. He's also really fast too. He could've played reciever in high school and caused lots of coverage problems with his speed. Can run good routes too. He should do better than well at murray, and I would hope to see him kicking or punting in the NFL someday.

Should of had Quentin Morgan from Leslie Co. Stayed in rifle most of the year.

 

15 D1's against 2 D1's. There was some real master motivating going on,huh! Next year maybe they'll choose some players and coaches who really want to be there.
