November 2, 201510 yr Do we know if it's STILL a one-year mandatory suspension? How could Stoops override a university policy? Tubby couldn't with Allison. No idea. Here is what he referenced, it's from 2000. My guess is he is your typical internet blowhard looking for something to whine about, facts be dammed. Booze policy revised for UK athletes
November 2, 201510 yr I don't really care if he's suspended one game, two games, or for the rest of the season. My issue is that Ohio State did not appear to follow their own internal policies. How do you justify that? My understanding (and please, correct me if I'm wrong) is that Ohio State's Drug & Alcohol Policy requires a 2 game suspension. Barrett has only received a one (1) game suspension. How do you justify this? Hopefully @John Anthony can explain. @John Anthony, or anyone else familiar with Ohio State's drug & alcohol policy?
November 2, 201510 yr @John Anthony, or anyone else familiar with Ohio State's drug & alcohol policy? It's been explained. What we need to know is what constitutes a felony vs a misdemeanor in Ohio. That is the reason this case is not subject to what everyone is referencing in the OSU policy
November 2, 201510 yr Should athletes be punished by the school if only charged or should the punishment be held off until the legal process plays out? I ask because JA brought up Ashley Lowery. Lowery was charged in May of 2013. As of August 2014 he still hadn't gone to court over it. The article I saw said it could be early 2015 before he did. I can't find anything showing he ever did.
November 2, 201510 yr Are you kidding me? You've made repeated claims that multiple posters have attacked JT over this yet when called out to back up your claims crickets. It's probably over your head Woody but I guess you missed the part where Clyde spent half of his Sunday studying Ohio OVI laws lobbying for JT to be suspended two games.

That is the reason this case is not subject to what everyone is referencing in the OSU policy Pardon me, I have not seen any explanation. Can you direct me to the post that answers my question? If so, I'd appreciate it & it would save me time wading through this thread. For what it's worth, a DUI is the same as an OVI. Under Ohio (and Kentucky) law, it is a misdemeanor. It is the most serious misdemeanor you can be charged with in Ohio, but it is a misdemeanor. The 4th DUI is a felony in both Ohio & Kentucky.

That's a well timed question when I bought to light your coach did nothing to Lowery, he just sat on it even though he knew his BAC, he knew about the wreck, he just hoped it would all go away until after he was done at UK.
November 2, 201510 yr That seems better, but is that even a punishment? Is summer term mandatory? It's not the punishment that is being sold by some. I can't answer though if it's punishment. I don't know what aid they are referring to. Is his summer tuition/room/board still paid? Don't know. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be because my son is a long snapper and doesn't stay on campus for the summer) but I believe that the summer term is mandatory if the player wants to participate in the "voluntary" summer practices held on campus.

November 2, 201510 yr It's probably over your head Woody but I guess you missed the part where Clyde spent half of his Sunday studying Ohio OVI laws lobbying for JT to be suspended two games. You got nothing so you result to insults. Not sure why expected different from you.

The question came up because I went back and looked at what happened with Lowery. I wasn't trying to justify anything. But again, instead actually adding to the conversation you just want to use it as an opportunity to take shots. It's a legit question, one I'm not sure where I stand. If JT ends up being cleared is it fair he was punished by the school? Same with Lowery. What if it came back that here was a mistake with the test and he wasn't intoxicated? I guess it's easier for you to sit back and call everyone haters and try to play the poor victim.

This isn't like he was accused of theft or battery and is awaiting a trial? It's pretty cut and dry, he got popped. I would think the UK kid was awaiting trial for all the other litany of charges, but the DUI is already enforced.
November 2, 201510 yr It's probably over your head Woody but I guess you missed the part where Clyde spent half of his Sunday studying Ohio OVI laws lobbying for JT to be suspended two games. Keep hanging onto this. It says a lot. Took me five minutes to google "Ohio DUI vs OVI."

Two questions regarding this: What is the alcohol policy at UK for athletes? Do you support coaches being able to punish kids as they see fit?

Correct. I just don't think they take more than 6 or 9 hours which lowers the bill if you're paying the bill.
