Actually Barker would be more mobile. He was one of only 3 QB's in ky high school history to have as many rushing TDs and passing TD's I believe.

Coach Murphy was not a passing kind of guy.

 

In 1970 Highlands was losing to Holmes with about 4 minutes left in the game. Highlands started 1st and ten about their own 20 yard line. Everybody in the stands was screaming for Highlands to "THROW THE BALL". Coach Murphy's way or the highway. First down gain of two, second down, gain of seventy(Freer off tackle). Birds have the ball on Holmes eight yard line with less than two minutes in the game. First and eight, Dukey Snyder goes in for the TD. If Murphy didn't throw the ball in this situation it should be known that he would never throw the ball.

 

Holmes had a great team that year. They had Doug Speaks at HB and Martin was their QB.

This years team seems to have a lot of the same problems as last years team. Strong first half showings that fade quickly once the second half begins. IMO some of that can be contributed to a lack of halftime adjustments. I also think many of players on this team are mentally weak. They fold instead of clawing their way back when something goes wrong. This team has a long way to go still.

 

I still think they find a way to get to 6 wins and a bowl this year, but there is no doubt they will take one off the chin next week against Tennessee. Tennessee is on a completely different planet when it comes to talent level. If UK doesn't come out blazing, it will quickly turn into another 20-30 point beatdown.

Towles is not the answer for

This team. This far into a season you can't have more Int's than TDs as the starter. Just get Barker snaps so he is ready if Towles gets hurt.

 

But that is the risk of just chucking up 50/50 balls....

 

Do you really want to go there? I'm here so I'll give you my 2 cents worth. When PT throws the 50/50 balls he expects his guy to give 100% to catch the ball. He also expects his guy to play defense and not let the defender make the pick. None of this is happening because the receivers are displaying lack of effort. I guess I can't expect those receivers to get the 50/50 balls, when they can't catch the balls thrown between the numbers. Bottom line is 8 to 10 dropped passes a game leave very little else to go wrong and win the game. As far as chucking it up, he thinks his guy has the advantage and should make the play.

Stoops isn't the problem. He's doing a great job. Talent is the issue. Last night was high level SEC talent vs. low level SEC talent.

 

The only thing Barker is the answer to is a trivia question about the fight at EKU.

 

Recruiting is at an all time high though.

 

Everything is heading in the right direction.

 

I wouldn't necessarily say better talent, but rather older, bigger, and stronger.

 

On MSU's 2-man depth chart at every position.

 

Of the 44 guys:

- 9 are seniors and 24 are juniors

- 21 of the 22 starters are either a junior or a senior

- They redshirted 23 of their freshman this year, and have pretty much every year

PT also does not have the luxury of a ton of time in the pocket. All in all I think he is doing a good job and seems to be getting better and better.

Chinese fire drill almost every play with the UK D. Halfway through the season and players don't know where to line up? Players not set when the ball is snapped.

 

Baker doesn't even try on the 50/50 balls, no effort at all. They did pass to the tight end 3 times, it was working so they got away from it.

 

If the same Tenn. team that lost to Alabama shows up, and the UK team that lost last night shows up, it could get ugly fast.

I'm not much on hacking on coaches. My biggest complaint about coaching was the end of the first half. UK had the ball around midfield with 4 min or so left and was snapping the ball with 20 seconds on the play clock. Milk the clock a little and limit MSU opportunity to score if they get the ball back.
