World Series: Mets vs Royals

Featured Replies

Game one has been awesome. Just what you hope to see in a World Series game. Royals give up their first unearned run in

the post season allowing the Mets to take the lead. Then Familia gives up a home run in the bottom of the 9th, his first blown save since July 30, and we head to extra innings.

Wow!!!!!

Clutch hitting and pitching. Great game.

I guessing the Royals find a way to win this one.

Hosmer sac fly wins it in the 14th for the Royals.

@MARlyRiveraESPN

Source close to the Volquez family confirms to @Enrique_Rojas1 and @ESPNDeportes that Edinson Volquez's father died today in the DR

Good night, talk about burying the lead (pardon the pun)...but they didn't say word one in the pre-game show! Wonder if they're holding it for their golden boy, Joe Buck, to release?

Rumor is Volquez doesn't know yet so they may not want to put it out on national tv.

Buck stated on broadcast that Volquez's wife asked club that he not be told about his Dad's passing until he was done pitching for the game.

I think I saw a tweet from Rovell that said there was a (-150) prop bet that a game would go into extra innings. 98% of the money bet was on yes a game would.

Man that is just brutal.

Prop bets like that have low limits so they probably didn't get hit that hard.

I can't believe that Mike & Mike are discussing if everyone should have ran with the story of Volquez dad's passing or not before the family was able to tell him.

While not really criticizing what was done they are discussing that it should have been reported while he was still in the game even though that was against the families wishes.

Unfortunately, I missed the end of last night's game. I was basically falling asleep in between pitches, and woke up on the couch at 2:00 a.m. Luckily, one of the notifications on my phone showed me the final score as I was walking upstairs to go to bed.

Late night.

I fell asleep during the commercial break going into the bottom of 14.

Greenberg is no longer a "sports journalist", he's more now like a tabloid journalist. Golic is just the goofy ex-jock that goes along with what ESPN tells him to do. I no longer listen to them because all Greenberg wants to do is bring up personal garbage about sports figures. The guy's an idiot. Volquez's wife, with other family members approval I'm guessing, didn't want her husband to be told before he pitched in the game and during his outing. If that is what the family's wishes were, the hell with what Mike and Mike think about it. And maybe that was what his father wanted, for him to pitch as well as he could without knowing until later.

I think you guys are being WAY too hard on Mike and Mike. They were just asking the question. They both totally agreed that it was the family's call as to whether the Royals should tell Volquez before or after he pitched. Regarding whether the media should report it, they were just discussing the ethics either way. Golic said he did NOT think a news outlet should report it and Greenberg said that while he would not, he could understand why others would because the story "is newsworthy". I did not have a problem with anything either of them said.

I think they asked a great question and that is media responsibility. That's all they asked. Should a news organization wait to report it simply because the family wishes so? Fair question.

If the family chose to NOT tell him despite everyone else reading about it on Twitter then that's mainly on them if a news organization then reports it.
