Russellville's a team capable of upsetting anyone on any given night. I think Beechwood likely beats them by 2-3 TDs, but, should they play, it would be at Russellville and they're always tough at home.. Hard to get a good gauge on the Panthers this year because their schedule hasn't been the greatest, but, they've won big for the most part and only loss to a very good Murray team who I'd put right up their with Beechwood, probably even favor them over Beechwood and since then, the Panthers have gotten a couple of key players back from injury, so, they should be hirring on all cylinders..

Who are their potential match ups? I assume as a 1 seed they don't have to come to Ft Mitchell week 2 this year?

Looks like they would play Fairview in the second round and possibily Paintsville if Paris can get by Fairview. Thats of course the if favorites were to all advance. Fairview/Nicholas will be an interesting matchup as will Raceland/Brossart

Where is the undefeated Paris Greyhounds in this discussion? Surely they have a shot right? They looked fairly solid the two times I saw them this season.

Paris has a fast defense, but they'll struggle against a team that can run down the middle or has a physical line. Pikeville and Paintsville are both physical teams and one of them will represent the East.

Those 3 are about as equal as it comes. Russellville,Hazard,Fairview, Paris and Raceland do have shots for upsets. I think Russellville and Hazard have the best chance for upsets. Yes Hazard did get blasted by Fairview in week 1 but this is a different Hazard team and those young kids have improved and gotten better with each game. Russellville is one of the only other teams to play Mayfield close until last years title game. Beechwood played them tough as well so I think Russellville has a shot especially if Beechwood travels there. Paintsville has a chance to play at home all 4 games.

Definitely NOT a two tiger race. Watch for Pikeville to be clearly in the race. Both Beechwood and Paintsville have excellent teams, no doubt. Imo, Pikeville is right there with them. It will be interesting to see how it all shakes out before it's over.

I would love to see Paris win it all and think they are good, but I don't think they are in the very top tier of elite 1A teams. I think that is reserved for Beechwood, Paintsville, and Pikeville.

No doubt Pikeville has a chance. Paintsville needed a miracle to beat them when they played each other earlier in the year.

 

I agree. Paintsville did need a miracle to win that game, and I came away from that game thinking Pikeville was the better team that night. You need to keep a couple things in mind though. First, Phelps went down early in that game with an injury. So, Paintsville played a majority of that game without him. Secondly, IMO Paintsville has improved a lot since that game, more so than Pikeville. It is funny though. Since the two loses to Paintsville and Belfry, I haven't heard a lot of talk about Pikeville.
