Pitino not going to ACC Media Day

Featured Replies

Man, it's exciting to see all this interest in ACC Media Day.

:lol2:

At least no one is talking about Duke and Carolina lol

If Rick isn't going, then there is no way a player should have to go...unless the media has agreed to not ask them about this beforehand.

To be honest, that would be the ONLY way I would allow players and/or coaches to attend.

Best conference in the country beside the NBA West. Also a lot of scandals as well.

The ACC has to be thrilled with the events at Louisville and Syracuse. Of course, UNC will be found innocent.

Yeah, because Miami, North Carolina, Duke, NC State etc have all been model citizens since their joining the ACC. :lol2:

Bottom line is Pitino is doing what he always does. Taking hard working individuals that have some potential and getting the most out of them as he can. Can he win a national title this year? Probably not. He doesn't seem to have a group of horses to string together enough good games, but anyone who thinks his ponies can't pull an upset on any given night better remember he won a LOT of games with a bunch of nobody's at UK and that Mashburn fellow.

(And I am a die hard UK fan but all the UofL piling on over this scandal is getting a little crazy. It is something that should have not happened but it is not near as horrible as what was going on at UNC. It is sexier since hookers are involved but not worse for college athletics to me.)

You left out stretching the truth as one of the things Pitino always does.

I'm not so sure I agree with the last paragraph. UNC was academic, which in a way makes it worse but let's no down play an assistant coach paying for prostitutes to have sex with players, recruits, and their guardians in a university dorm. That's pretty bad. Not to mention the head coach, AD, or University President wasn't paying attention. Of course it only happened 20 plus times over a 4 year period.

In all seriousness, what has Duke been convicted of?

Plus, two or three years since joining the league UofL is involved in one of the most publicized scandals in years.

Nothing.

But if we are talking about things the ACC wouldn't be happy about, the whole lacrosse deal was a bad, bad look. Regardless of the outcome. People don't forget that stuff.

Just like this whole deal with Louisville... Regardless of what the final outcome is, people will always remember it.

I always assumed that Media Day was mandatory -- no?

Anyone?

Somewhere in the world Boheim is screaming, "dont forget about me!"

What a wonderful role model of a conference the ACC has become, lol.

Anyone?

Finally saw it in today's paper. UofL's lawyers cleared it with the ACC. Normally attendance is mandatory but the league agreed to let the university lawyers handle this as they saw fit without fighting them over Media Day.

The ACC is in on the conspiracy! Take them all down!

“We understand why coach isn’t here,” Lewis said. “He’s been advised by legal counsel not to talk about these matters. We understand that. They sent us because we’re leaders on this team, and we’re here for that reason.”

I get the legal angle of it all, but something about sending two guys that have never played a minute for UL didn't seem right. It put them into an incredibly unfair position.

It was smart. They're the only two guys that had absolutely no relationship with the school before this spring. All they can do is say "We're working through it."

It's unfair to the media, for sure, who love Pitino because he never, ever stops talking once he gets going.
