Stats speak for themselves. Baker leading all RBs in all categories. Baker avg 224 and 3.3 TDs/game. Brown, Dowdy, and Roberts, around 30 or 40. To have so many weapons, Ashland relies on Baker far too much, imo. They have other kids that can open their offense up a bit. This could hurt Ashland Friday.

So your saying that the states best RB needs to get less touches, allowing the other kids to run the ball more, in order to win? Just making sure I'm reading that right.

Nope. Baker needs to lead in touches. BUT, they have way too much speed and tallent at the skill positions to have no passing threat that is consistent. That is what i am refering to.

As an Ashland fan, I would like nothing more than to have a passing threat this year. It would be very, very hard to beat this team if they were multidimensional. That said, 8 games into the season, they just don't have that. It is what it is, but Ashland may as well line up and tell the defense that they're going to run the ball.

They have attempted to get the passing game going, but honestly, its just not gonna happen this year. So IMO, they need to stick with whats working.

I agree its too little too late for them to develope a passing game now. Imo, that's the biggest and only mistake the staff made in the offseason. Not just going with Dowdy from the get go. He doesnt have a bad arm and with work could be effective enough.

Usually the best TEAM wins, Johnson Central, but sometimes the team with the best player wins, Baker. This one is hard for me to call. There's is a lot of pressure on JC to not just win this game but to win a state championship because of the exodus of other perennial powers. I would really like to be at this one!

Come on down, we have plenty of room.

Does Brown not play any receiver? If Ashland wanted a passing game they have the guys to do it.

Any team that has baker has a chance. But ashland has too many other weak spots ( qb, discipline, etc.)

I understand getting other people the ball. The 1990 state championship game, Lincoln co focused on Thomas all game, he only had 40? yards. Hutt, on the other hand, ran for 140 yards and 3 scores. I would love to have another Hutt on the team, no disrespect to Roberts or any other running back. Baker will break a few and although not get his avg, he'll get his yards. For us to be successful, others need to take some of the pressure off Quinton. I do love that we have been using O'Brian in the passing game. I've been saying it all a long. Hopefully we will have a passing game next year, but that's for another thread. This game shouldn't be a blowout. I suspect that it will be a very close margin of victory. I can't bet against my cats, so here's my prediction:

Ashland 24

Johnson Central 22

This game reminds me of the 2009 matchup in that JC had one true threat in JJ Jude just as Ashland does with Quinton Baker. With that being said, if Ashland is to beat JC it will come with a balanced attack, not just Baker. It's no secret that the tomcats go when Baker goes. I haven't seen him this year but by all accounts he is much improved, but so is the JC D. I can guarantee that Matney will force Ashland to win with someone else than Baker. Ppl refer to JCs schedule when

Trying to gauge them but it's not a true gauge. Let's not forget JC nearly had a running clock on Lex. Cath which just took down the #1 team in their class at home. This team is better than last years team. Ashland will have an advantage playing at home but I don't think it will be enough. I'll take JC by 3 TDs

Bigger game than most in the state are aware of.

Don't kid yourself.

Johnson Central 28-7.

Not gonna happen because the wrong kid is at QB. He has a such a weak arm, No velocity and no distance. You just have so much more options when Braxton is in the game as far as throwing it and he is alot stronger! Just on Friday they had Greenup stacking 10 in the box and still wouldnt throw it because he cant! If they dont mix it up with some passing down field the JC will stack it up and it will be a long night. Q and the Oline can only do so much....

Just curious, not knocking the kid, but why would he be the better option? I have seen him play and he looks very inconsistent throwing the ball.
