I think measured against capacity is the best way to judge sport attendance. Soccer has wisely built soccer-specific stadiums for crowd sizes that are appropriate. In the early days of MLS teams were trying to play in cavernous NFL stadiums and the crowds were lost. Now with stadiums built to hold 20,000, you have good, loud crowds without many empty seats, which makes the product better. And of course, had there not been interest in the clubs you wouldn't have seen soccer stadiums built.

Something tells me if we had a dance team/cheerleading thread that the drama in there would dwarf the soccer and softball threads. No parents are as crazy as dance/cheer parents.

This summer we went to Gatlinburg for a weekend, they were having "Nationals" for 4-5 year old cheer-dance teams. That's right..."Nationals" for 4-5 year olds.

 

I looked at my wife right then, and told her once again that I'm so glad I married a soccer/tennis player.

 

What's funny is some of the moms that we saw, IF they were cheerleaders in their day, it's borderline amazing that they went from being able to do stunts to now looking as though they struggle to tie their shoes all in a matter of 10-15 years.

I really enjoy soccer and I really enjoy football.

okay... there have been some intervening posts while I was typing and so I had to edit my original to include this first paragraph. I am not referring to "going both ways" when I say "I'm with you." I am referring to liking both sports.

 

^ I'm with you, Getslow. I do like football more since that is what I grew up with but I have an immense amount of respect for the skill, agility, and endurance that good soccer players have developed.

United which was my favorite team years and I guess a little of me rubbed off on him

I think it's too hard for a non soccer fan to tell what good soccer player is. County and City School soccer is very different. County Soccer player might average 3 goals a game, a City Soccer player doesn't even average one Goal per game(competition/speed) and they're the D1 player, but you can't really tell. I can watch Men and Womens World Cup and not tell a difference in speed or style of play(Unless they were to play each other)

Think there is a huge difference in US women's soccer and US men's soccer. I've enjoyed the women's team Much more because of their passing abilities. I've always thought they were so much better than the men's team offensively.

When I was in High school

They used to have cheerleading camp at Miami of Ohio in the summer. A ton of high school

Cheerleading squads would be there. My friend and I would always make a road trip to Oxford during that week. Even Cheerleaders get lonely during summer camp How I miss those Summers
