Someone tell the NFL refs to stop throwing flags

Featured Replies

I would like to watch an NFL game and see three consecutive plays without a penalty flag...the NFL has been hard to watch the past two weeks.

As far as the Bengals game. There were a ton of flags but I actually didn't see any that shouldn't have been thrown except for maybe the PI on AJ Green.

On top of all the commercial breaks equals unwatchable!

Should the refs stop throwing flags or should the players stop committing penalties?

This

I think a new rule should be enforced for all televised games. For every flag that is thrown, the camera must show a cheerleader for 10 seconds shaking her pom poms

at least then it would be watchable

Yes...

Some of the penalties have been very ticky-tacky. I thought I heard on Red Zone that last week there was an NFL record for most penalties called and by a pretty wide margin.

Exactly. The NFL and college basketball are trying to fix a very similar problem. Let the rules slide for a few years, and cleaning it up is a pain in the rear for the viewing public...

I don't follow the NFL closely, what rules have they been letting slide that they are now trying to correct?

I don't have the numbers, but have noticed a lot more calls at the LOS for things like hands to the face. Couple that with contact calls on the perimeter and you get a lot more flags on things they have let go for years.

I do think the issue becomes consistency. If they are going to call it tight, they can't let one slide here and there...

I think TV has a lot to do with it. With all games in HD now every action can be seen not only at home but by those that grade the officials as well. Refs know they are being watched closer than ever and have responded in kind.

One for instance is the illegal man downfield in pass plays when a lineman is Downfield on screen passes.

That is one rule that some do not realize is different than high school and college.

It's unwatchable. Thank God for fantasy football
