I think a lot of them have gone to other sports such as bass fishing and archery. I believe that might be taking away from other sports as well. I'm in no way bashing either of those sports, I'm just glad to see kids involved in something, instead of doing nothing and getting into mischief. I just feel that Boyd might be spreading themselves too thin. I believe I've seen a number of freshman starting or getting a lot of reps on the varsity football team. Not to knock it, but a school that size should not have to play freshman, again, if they are the best player, yes, by all means, play them. JMO

Your right, but that makes one wonder why so many kids at Boyd are choosing soccer over football. I have nothing against soccer, I actually enjoy it. But I remember when Boyd was a tough out in both of those sports, along with baseball and basketball. Everyone has down years, but Boyd's football program appears to have fallen and can't get up.

Same reason as at East, those are the sports than win. As for this years Boyd County senior class they were a good 8th grade team but of course that was before they lost Quinton and the Gobles left and one kid was held back and quit to focus on other sports. Edmonds stayed and kept playing I don't know about the others.

 

Winning cures everything though and I've heard that their underclassmen are pretty talented and if they keep getting playing experience they could be pretty solid by the time they're more matured, hoping the same happens at East with their sophomore class.

I get that, but with the numbers Boyd has available, they shouldn't have a problem fielding 60+ for football every year. I don't know what the problem at Boyd is but it has to be more than them having some bad seasons recently.

Any thoughts on what those problems are and how to fix them? Obviously, they have a large school and fail to get the appropriate numbers out for football, but what else?

 

Boyd has been the whipping boy for a long time. They can play good at times like 2005 when they beat a Russell team that one state. I think Boyd has some very good athletes in there school who have never put a uniform on. Kids also like playing for a winner. Restructuring from the top to bottom is needed. I,m not saying replace the coaching staff but it needs to be looked at. The biggest problem is getting the kids home after practice. It's a long drive for a lot of parents. The administration needs to find out from the kids what the problem is. They will tell you if you ask. There is no reason why Boyd cannot reach the level of say Johnson Central, Ashland, Raceland, or Russell if the administration can fix the problem. Greenup county did it. Firing the head coach every few years is not the answer.

I will be in attendance for this game. As ugly as it might be, I can't help but remember the time I spent on the field during this rivalry. And yes, there were some good games back when I played. The stands were always packed with rows of people standing around the field. I since the same atmosphere, with one side of the scoreboard a little lopsided. Ok, maybe a lot lopsided. Sorry Lion fans.

They will be fired up for Ashland as most of these kids know one another and some are friends. T-CATS, I love your passion, but if this game is 80% mental, well, the debate team would be state champs. Sure they know each other, just like they know the kids from Grayson, and Russell, and Greenup. I'm not buying what you're selling. I think the Boyd kids will play like they always do. And this game is physical, not mental. And the Lions don't have the Jimmys nor Joes to match up, whether anyone involved is a MENSA member or not.

I don't think Boyd has a chance but do think they get up a little more for the Tomcats then anyone else they play. We can agree to disagree. Your right it's physical more then mental might be off a little on the 80% mental but if a team goes into the game already thinking they will lose, it's over before it starts.
