Conner 21 Newport Central Catholic 17

A 6A football team should wipe out a 2A football team, not hang on for the win.

Irregardless of class, very nice win for Conner, who many predicted (on this site) would lose this game.

Congrats to the Cougars for being 4-1. Can anyone tell me who Conner has beaten other than NCC and Dixie. I can't remember the other two wins and don't have the opportunity to look it up right this second.

You missed post 14.

And let's not pretend here, if a 2A team is playing with you, you have no chance in 6A, that is the point.

To be fair, outside of about 3 6A teams in the state year in and year out, no other 6A team in the state stands a chance either. So this entire continuing conversation is like beating a dead horse isn't it?

Boone and Scott

Sam Driggers did not play last night for Conner due to concussion protocol. Hope to see him back under center next week.

Should say "as the center".

Boone and Scott

Thank you. Not trying to bash the schedule because you can't really control how good teams are going to be. But, as someone who has not watched Conner play yet this year, are they as good as their 4-1 record shows or does some of it have to do with them not playing really good teams? Again, genuinely asking this question as I have not watched them play.

The Scott and NCC games have been mentioned as "measuring stick" games for Conner, and they are 2-0 in those games. Conner is solid and having a nice season, but still needs to improve in all areas to compete with and beat Ryle and Cooper, IMO.

Sounds like it was Manning and not Warwick with the pick in the 4th quarter.

Never trust the PA guy.

That guy was AWFUL, but not as bad as some others out there.

I think Conner will beat Camels and lose to Ryle and Cooper. They may hang around in those games but their defense looked to be getting tired in the 4th quarter which does not bode well for 6A games.

As far as I can tell Newport Catholic has 12 turnovers in their 4 losses and only one in their 2 wins. In order to improve during district play they will certainly have to get better at this phase of the offensive game to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Congrats to Conner on a solid win. They certainly have a tough road in 6A ahead of them but 4-1 is something to definitely be proud of and a great start to the year.

Correct. No one in Hebron is saying "Take us to St Mathews." They are simply getting better.

That's what you hope for.

Not when the horse has a four year journey.

The difference in the game was after NCC last Td. Down 5 they decided to kick extra point. Then under 2 minutes 4th and goal from 5 they have to go for the TD. Didn't get it. Lost by 4. Ugh!

How late in the game was their last TD?

NCC wil have become more disciplined and avoid all their penalties, especially the personal fouls and unsportmanlike calls. These just kill them and they continue to do it.
