Study: Kentucky "Dry" Counties Have More Meth

Featured Replies

Not really, just wondering why you prefer to make fun of my preacher for not supporting booze?

Considering prohibition was such a rousing success I suppose I should be all for what he says.

You dont have to be for anything he says. It dont matter, but for you to poke fun at my preacher for his belief is wrong.

So I guess you believe drunks will line the streets of heaven?

I'd say they are as likely as the shrill harpies of the temperance movement to be there.

As to poking fun, I am merely pointing out absurd and outdated beliefs. My sister in law was Baptist and at her sister's wedding back in the 90s her mother wouldn't allow dancing or alcohol. The no dancing prohibition is not at all uncommon amongst Baptist congregations.

Interesting

One correlation also is that the "Dry" counties are probably as a whole poorer than the wet or moist counties. Economics probably has more to do with it than booze.

You realize the dry county also has a correlation to those areas being worse off on an economic scale .

What is the correlation between dry counties & its economy?

Living in a dry county would suck. :lol2:

While it isn't the only factor or maybe even a major one. When you are trying to attract jobs to your area , over all lifestyle and entertainment for employees is a discussion that is had.

A lot of business is done over cocktails over dinner in the evenings.

Being a dry county does nothing to help attract businesses. That's not even getting into the service industry and the many restaurants who serve alcohol who don't build locations in those towns.

I have never had a drink of alcohol in my life. I am not religious. It's just common sense to me. But I do recognize that prohibiting alcohol is not the answer. I don't think there is an answer. Meth is just stupid.

The initial Premise was that an absence of alcohol seemed to correlate to more Meth Labs.

My point was that the Counties that are "Dry" are for the most part more economically disadvantaged than those counties that are "Wet". Not necessarily poorer due to lack of alcohol sales, just they are some of the poorer counties in the state. And just like everywhere in our Country, Drugs flourish in our poorer areas.

You take the top 20 dry counties in Kentucky by ranked my number of Meth Labs, make alcohol legal and Meth use wouldn't change much if at all...IMO.

Gotta make sure the unholy alliance of bootleggers and Baptist preachers never breaks up. :thumb:

You will hopefully go to Mars, its wet.

The same could be said about the left.
Lordy ! Is everything political with you ?

Unfortunately everything about everything has become political, not just with me.

Living in a dry county would suck. :lol2:

Yeah, that's an experience I never want to go through. It's bad enough just having to travel through them, I can't imagine how miserable it would be to live in one. :lol2:

Perhaps then I'd never have to listen to these silly preachers in these dry counties who puff out their chests and act like they're doing the Lord's work by keeping their counties "free from the sinful influence of the demon brew," and all the ostrich-headed hypocrisy that surrounds it when you consider the people who pump the most money into the "vote dry" campaigns are the local bootleggers and the owners of the liquor stores right across the county line who've always made sure that this holy place was the wettest dry county in the state.

Is bootlegging that big of a business anymore? In my life I think I've known of 2 in this county and neither one of them would have parted with a dime to assist with coercing an election outcome in their favor.

Maybe in some counties there are bootleggers rolling in money and willing to donate to the local elections...you'd think if that was true someone would have busted out the ones on the "Dry" side for accepting those donations.

I'll take that silly preacher all day long that's trying to keep a county dry. Heaven forbid a preacher feel convicted to try to help combat the evils that alcohol can bring like

DUI

Killing someone while drinking and driving

Alcoholics

Alcoholism

Spouse abuse

Taking money from family

Of course all anyone wants is the money

Money is root of all evil, that's very true.

So yeah I'm glad that chest thumping preacher is doing what he does, even if I choose wrong, he isn't.
